I'm not usually one to be overly cynical when it comes to known devs turning to Kickstarter but Garriott owns a castle (well a giant ass house, but he named it after a castle) and paid tens of millions to go into space in 2008 and in 2010 he won $28 million in a lawsuit against NCSoft. Why does he need a million dollars from other people?
Because he wants their money. Keep in mind that this project would most likely have been released with or without this KS.
Honestly, that kind of bugs me. A game like Death Inc doesn't even reach half of the relatively little that it needed but this game that can be made without the KS money so going to make a ton of it.
I'm not giving any money of this project, but I'll buy it if it ends up good. I simply don't trust Richard to focus his vision and not pull a Molnyeux.
lol, poor Molyneux always getting the butt end of the video gaming jokes because of a stupid acorn to a tree promise that didn't make it (and wouldn't hav ereally added anything worthwhile to fable).
Since then he hasn't made any promises and clearly says it's things he'd "like" to see but won't promise it.
Buthe wishes he never showed off that old Project ego (codename for fable) stuff until it was in the game now.
Garriot has done the same thing several times, but old Moldynuts slipped during preproduction on Fable 2 also.
When? I loved the fable games (3 was the most disappointing though, too dumbed down) and post-fable Peter was always careful to constnatly say he wasn't making promises and everything he "hoped" would make it that he talked about he said this. People just like to keep giving him crap for fable it seems.

@Michael, While there will definitely be some micro-transaction options, none will be required. We're also not looking to follow the "Social" trend of making the game super painful unless you pay or sell power so that you can only compete if you spend tons. We're selling the game up front and you will be able to play through the single player experience without spending a dime. We're strong believers in the golden rule that if you're going to do micro-transaction, you don't sell power but rather uniqueness (visuals, fun stuff!) and convenience. We will have some ongoing server costs and plan on keeping the content flowing even after launch so micro-transactions will be aimed at those goals. Richard is a huge believer in what he refers to as a "fair shake" when it comes to that kind of stuff and it is definitely an area where we will be looking for lots of player feedback on what feels fair during the alpha and beta. - Chris

@Doji, the current plan is for 5 episodes and we have a story drawn up through all 5. This will be a full blown game with significant content and story lines and not a watered down 1/5th of a normal sized game. We haven't set how we'll be selling the upcoming chapters. Richard and I disagree on how that should work (*shakes fist at Lord British!*) currently and you can guess who usually wins those disagreements. I think Richard's proposal was that we charge some nominal fee like $20. Very much cart before the horse talk though as I'm sure we'll learn tons over the next 6 months as we start to get this one into people's hands to see what they actually do with it. -Chris
What I don't understand about this is that the guy does not have money problems. Why would he go the KS route? I can really only imagine he's doing it as a service for Ultima fans so that they feel part of the games development.
There was one in development, but it got cancelled. Even had screenshots... can't find em, but it actually looked cool for it's time.
so if its online, is it considered an MMO? or just a 5-6 player online game?
