Amazon Suspends The Sale Of SimCity

only Steam game I remember anything like this happening with was with Dead Island...Steam sent out the wrong game files

Fallout3: Operation Anchorage DLC.

When originally released through GFWL, on day one Operation Anchorage killed installs of Fallout3....resulting in Operation Anchorage being pulled from the site for 24hours+ so Bethesda could fix their code.

I think Steam took down WarZ and gave refunds because WarZ's store page was misleading as to the game content. Not quite the same as a game with technical problems, though.

That's a little harsh. It's Sim City. An acclaimed title that everyone loves, everyone likes to play. It's not one of those games that mostly people in the [H] would play, not your average Jane and Joe that knows anything about always-online DRM.

EA's singular goal is to screw over the user for every single penny of profit they can milk from them. They have had this goal since at least the late 90s. If, at this point, people don't know how vile a company EA is, then they deserve to get burned.

I would hope that this would serve as a lesson in the dangers of purchasing and supporting those who make user-subjugating software. Always on digital restrictions management is unacceptable in any form.

I, for one, am also fed up with what is laughably called service in the online gaming world. The amount of downtime that your average MMORPG or other online game has is absolutely staggering. If my servers at work had that kind of downtime on a regular basis, I'd be looking for a new job. If I tried to bullshit my boss about how "the servers are down and I'm working on it but can't tell you exactly what is wrong or the exact steps I'm taking to resolve the issue" I'd be fired too. It is one of the reasons I don't play MMOs or other always-online games anymore; I got tired of the incompetence.

Ok, if EA sends out the wrong game files what would happen? Negative reviews everywhere.
I don't think you can get the wrong game files if you had a disc.

Black Ops 2 would like to have a few words with you. Seriously, that was less than six months ago and it was all over [H] at the time because people were laughing about it being such a bad cockup.

I love sim city. I totally didn't buy this game. Saw the train wreck a mile away. I'm also surprised so many people bought this ESPECIALLY after the diablo 3 fiasco. The problem now is that Sim City sold - so there's bound to be at least one more classic franchise ruined by these shady DRM practices.

Guys, stop buying games so impulsively or this will continue. Another example, don't go rushing out and buying starcraft heart of the swarm on release day. Make Blizzard get "GOTY" reviews before you plunk your money down on an overpriced expansion with online DRM...

So is the issue simply you can't download the game? or is their always on server authenticlusterfuck what is on the brink? Or both?

All of the above.

Cannot download because too many people were downloading. Then couldn't authenticate. Then client issues, then server side issues. Not having enough servers, too many people on one server, too much activity on one server so they had to disable leaderboards...on on on.

their download server havn't given me or any of my friends issues. Its the authentication/game servers themselves that are unstable. What kills me is they did a "stress test" and are having this magnitude of issues. Its a pretty awsome game when you can actually get in

I still think you're being harsh. Sim City gamers aren't your average EA gamer or any other type of gamer. My brother for one is the most computer/console illiterate person you can imagine and he doesn't buy anything like we would - except games like Sim City, Civilization, Age of Empire, things like that. Classic big title that comes out once in a decade.

My brother wouldn't know anything about EA's current DRM practice - and your "late 90s" comment is a little too exaggerated. The online DRM is a recent phenomenon..

Ugh, I want the game a lot, but I hate supporting their always-on DRM... Guess I'll wait till it hits bargain bin pricing.

How is it that a massive company like EA with all its resources is incapable of putting out a finished game, it's not like sim city is a very complicated project either, these sim engines are nothing new. It's pitiful.

Its EA cutting corners to save money.

They could either :

A) Spend the millions required to have a fully set infrastructure to handle a big launch and give gamers what they deserve.

B) Slowly increase capacity to met to demand in order to pinch every single dollar in savings possible. Do not offer pre-loading (the worst fucking idea ever) and keep bandwidth costs as low as possible in order to maximize profit.

B is what they chose. Its obvious that "video games" has nothing to do with EA. If they were in the food business they would have just as likely poisoned everyone that bought there aged food that they got on discount from a big supplier to parts of the country.

EA is in the business of making profit , not pleasing its consumer base. It obviously couldn't give two flying fucks what any of us or anyone else thinks of their methods. Now they are exposed on a massive scale with this kind of greed forward and as obvious as possible.

I hope this is ending days of EA. All this shit does is make gaming even more frustrating that it ever has to be. We don't live in the dark ages of the internet anymore , we know demand well before it comes and can easily compensate for it. Once EA goes out of business only something better will rise from its ashes , nothing could possibly be as terrible as EA has been to gaming and my favorite hobby over the last decade.

I feel burned. I knew I should have heeded the warnings of those who spoke out against the always online DRM.

I had really high hopes for this game or maybe the marketing just got into me. I bought this game on impulse and it's my first purchased Origin game. I didn't bought BF3 and ME3 nor DA2 because it has Origin DRM. Now, this game reminds me again why I shouldn't support EA.

Is it possible to report EA to BBB? I mean do they even honor refunds for shitty service and total disregard to it's customer base?

this is worse than the rage release.. lol pathetic..glad i dont buy games at launch..

Is it possible to report EA to BBB? I mean do they even honor refunds for shitty service and total disregard to it's customer base?

The impact of BBB reporting is inversely proportional to the size of the company. Try reporting Target for instance-they don't care and the BBB will usually try to dissuade you. EA would take your money and your complaint and laugh all the way to the bank with both.

Is it possible to report EA to BBB? I mean do they even honor refunds for shitty service and total disregard to it's customer base?

Reporting a business to the bbb is less fruitful than screaming at clouds. And at least the clouds don't require a $5 fee for taking a complaint.

Just why are people buying this game in the first place, when they know it has always on DRM, and you know they will have server issues on day 1-30.

Screw any game that has always on DRM. Just not worth it.

Is it possible to report EA to BBB? I mean do they even honor refunds for shitty service and total disregard to it's customer base?

you know whats even better than filing a complaint that does nothing? not giving them your money in the first place. there is one clear, simple solution to the problem and we all know what it is, so why do we keep letting them fuck us over and over again?

Is it even working yet?

This game was not ready for launch.

Sure hope your reduced piracy is worth it EA, because there's no way in hell it increases sales

If EA didn't have the sports franchises would they be in business still? Serious question. This is absurd.

and i thought i got screwed on aliens colonial marines.

so glad i didnt prepurchase this game like i planned on it.

And this is EXACTLY why i wonder why people RUN out to buy a game on release day, have you not learned in your computer years those early adopters are the actual beta testers.............

Fuck EA and those greedy assholes.

DRM = Dick Ramming Machine

And you will be dicked up if you continue buying from those assholes.

Just put my money on Tomb Raider from GMG, at least I know there's no queue.
FU EA. :p

As someone who has played on Origin prior to this game coming out, color me totally unsurprised. Mass Effect 3 still has server issues a year after release. Random disconnects, servers unreachable, lag. Had I heard their statement about being able to handle launch load on Origin I would have laughed in their faces. Origin probably couldn't cope with half the launch volume they have seen.

Sounds awfully similar to Diablo 3's launch issue where I spend the first day trying to log in, and when I did, I couldn't start a SINGLE PLAYER game because there was no slots available.

There is no excuse for this. If these companies choose to make a game needing to be online all the time, they need to ensure they have enough capacity on their end to support it. If they are not willing to spend money there, then don't do it at all.

EA has missed out on at least 4 purchases this year from me. They just need to put their products back on Steam and stop being idiots. I don't want to have an Origins account, I don't want to be online to play a single player game unless it tangibly benefits the game (which so far hasn't happened in a single player game.) Buying games and not getting to play them sucks, I don't understand why these companies don't understand that. No one cares that they are quickly trying to resolve server issues. We purchase a game and we expect it to work day one. Sure there will be a small percentage of people with problems, but when it goes beyond even 10% they should do the right thing and start issuing refunds and other useful incentives other than offering the customer a small discount. Own up to mistakes and move on.

How long agao did Everquest 1 launch? You would think by now these people could have learned from that server nightmare by now, but every game just repeats itself. How could have all this been avoided? For one EA could have learned from their mistakes. Second, there is absolutely no need to have a continous connection in SimCity.

So a couple days of denial will be followed by some kind of damage control statement instead of just patching the game to work without the DRM.

Another reason why to avoid games that uses online DRM, you always get screwed by it one way or another.
