I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with the Nvidia NVS 160m graphics card (256Mb), and am currently running an external 17" monitor at 1280x1024.

I'm a software QA for company based overseas, so I work remotely connected to a VM at their site, and as such I run my remote desktop session on the external monitor.

I want to upgrade the monitor to a larger one for hopefully < $900, but there are so many options!

The specs on the NVS 160m show a maximum of 1920x1200 on digital, but I have read people running the Dell U3011 monitor through the Displayport connection in the docking station, so I think that the card can drive the higher resolution monitors.

My first thought was the U2913WM at 2560x1080, but I'm thinking that maybe a 2560x1440 might be more efficient from a work point of view (I run SQL, VS, multiple Office documents, the company's software (which generally is 1024x768, but sometimes larger), Outlook and some other programs.

What are people's thoughts on a good screen for this?

Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29-inch Ultra Wide Monitor.

and use an USB to DVI/HDMI like the evga UV 39+ to run your old 17" and possible another display as it supports Dual Displays.

I find that more monitors the better.

I currently have a Acer H233H and two Acer AL1706 but have been saving up to get the Dell U2913WM to use as my main.
