Advice on a 3D monitor?

Hello. I've been wanting to go 3D for quite some time but I'm having difficulty finding a universally well-regarded monitor that also fits my needs. I'm looking for a monitor that is:
  • Active 3D.
  • Compatible with Radeon 7970.
  • $3-500.
I'm not sure about the size. I've thought about getting a 23", but I'm told that for 3D you really want to go larger, so 27" is definitely a consideration. The problem is that most of the 27" 3D monitors are in the $500+ range and at that point, I start debating if I should instead try to grab a 3D TV with an even larger screen size. I'm currently running a dual monitor setup (one 20", one 23") and a single, large TV might be ideal (at least 32"), but I've heard you really need to pay premium to get a good, active 3D experience with a TV - especially for gaming. If I were to go this route, I would only be able to spend about $7-800 maximum.

So what are my options, considering my budget and no Nvidia VISION?

You're pretty much limited to Samsung's offerings since they'll do 60 fps per eye in 3d through dvi or display port.

With a 3dtv you're limited to 30fps per eye over hdmi 1.4 in 1080p or 60fps per eye at 720p.

If you don't mind buying second hand, the Samsung 27" 3D monitors (s27a950d/750d) can be pretty readily found for ~$400.

I agree w/ Bababooey regarding the TVs vs Monitors. In my experience, 3D TVs are good for 3D cinema - not great for 3D games.

Thanks for the suggestion. The 750d is tempting (though I am not a fan of the base).

Is Samsung releasing any successors to those models? Kind of unfortunate that they're both discontinued, unless Samsung has something even better right around the corner.

I don't think there's anything out there that can do 3D satisfactorily except Lightboost (need an Nvidia card) monitors. Everything I've seen (LCD passive and active, plasma active) suffers from crosstalk and low brightness. I haven't tried Lightboost, so for all I know even that might not be up to snuff.

The lightboost displays aren't perfect either from what I've heard. You'll still see crosstalk at times. Also I don't know of any lightboost displays with a glossy finish. I don't know why in hell everyone thinks that an anti-glare coating on a 3d display is a good idea for. It creates an annoying artifact in 3d.

Tell me about it. Today I finally just gave the fuck up and ordered a super-cheap refurb to hold me over (and partly out of spite).
