I had a couple of Sidewinders for years, absolutely loved the mouse. I ended up getting a Naga Hex to replace it, but I'm not really liking it, I tend to pick it up a lot off my pad accidentally. The Naga is also a little small for my taste.

Any mouse similar to the Sidewinder, weighted and with thumb buttons?

I had one of the original Sidewinder and found a good replacement when it finally died with the Logitech G700. Only issue you might find is that the G700 doesn't have adjustable weights, and it is wireless, and but can function as a wired mouse and that allows you to remove the battery to lighten it. I use it wireless and absolutely love it. I only did get a bump mouse with a bad button, and but once I exchanged it no more problems, and even the dps resting is gone.

EDIT: I am not going to correct this post and leave it as a tribute at just how random auto correct on my Android tablet can be.

I replaced my Sidewinder with a Logitech G9x. It has weights and thumb buttons.

Thanks for the tips, but those two aren't quite what i am looking for.

Can't you still buy Sidewinders?

I replaced mine with a Corsair M90, but I don't like it. I mean it's fine and has lots of very cool tech. But it just doesn't feel right. None of the buttons are usable for me as I have arthritis in my right thumb really bad. And it's smaller than the Sidewinder so it's at times uncomfortable. It tracks much better than my Sidewinder so I just ignore the shortcomings.

I use the Logitech G500. It has different weight options, thumb buttons, and adjustable DPI. I have large hands so the size of the G500 was a big selling point.

Ya, you can still buy the Sidewinder. The only reason that I don't get another is that I didn't like the feet on it, they tend to get dirty really fast and they don't glide very well. I also wish it had more thumb buttons, which is why I went to a Naga Hex.

How is the M90 size-wise? Is it bigger than the Nagas? The M90 looks really good, I like the layout of the thumb buttons. I also assume that you can change DPI on the fly?

As for the G500, it's an updated version of the MX518, which was my favorite mouse until I found the Sidewinder.

If you want a cross between the MX518 (which was also one of my favorites) and the Sidewinder, check out the G700. I'm not telling you to go out and buy it, but find someone that has it or get a feel for it in the store. The buttons are really easy to get to and know by feel and the software is some of the best out there. I started my love of Logitech mice with the MX500 which was the pre to the MX510 >> MX518 >> G5 (2nd Gen) >> G400 >> G500. I personally owned the Microsoft Optical mouse (original), MX500, MX518, G7, G5 (Gen 1 and 2), several Razer Mice in between, then the Sidewinder (2 of them until each died) and then the G700. Trust me, check out the G700 in store and play with the software.

hmmm, I will have to check and see if any stores around here carry it, but doubtful, i live in butt fuck nebraska

I use a logitech g9x and love the adjustable weights and it works great since I got a gaming mouse pad for it. It did not like my desk or any other gaming surface other than my mouse pad.

from online research I did when I had it it seems some of them were shipped with sub-par lasers in them so I cant really reccommend them as you have a chance of getting one that jitters a lot but the ones that do have good lasers are awsome.

If you dont mind performing a ghetto laser adjustment the ones with the crappy lasers can be just as good.

I have had 3 of those one after another. Those are dying but still absolutely the best gaming mouses to date :)

It is ironic that you are encountering the same circumstances that I once had. I absolutely loved my Sidewinder x8, and having owned many mice from Razer to Logitech, I never imagined I would find one I liked much better. That is when I did a little research and found the G700. I've owned a G5 before and it cramped my hand something fierce. I have large hands and use a palm grim, so it was imperative that I find a mouse that had similar ergonomics. Most importantly, it needed to have groove to place my ring finger. Seeing as that was the exact feature that enthused me about the X8, I was astonished to find that the Logitech G700 surpassed it it excellence. Without a doubt, the G700 is the mouse to get coming from the Sidewinder

Sorry for the late response. It's a mouse that you have to rest your palm on to press the array of buttons for your thumb. Well at least that's what I have to do with my bum thumb. :) As far as size goes it's close to the sidewinder, but still too small for me. I used to rest my palm on my sidewinder or lightly grip it as it was perfect. The M90 has the buttons that you have so forget the lightly gripping part unless you're not going to use those buttons. They require effort to push and are nothing like the silky smooth left and right top buttons. I laid my M90 on top of my Sidewinder and the M90 is identical except it's missing the overhang where the weights slide into the Sidewinder. Also the Sidewinder is a little taller.

Now a real plus for the M90 is the teflon pads on the bottom of the mouse. They are huge and are silky smooth like the left and right mouse clicks. No problems with it scuffing up my [H]ardocp Ratz Pad. It was made for this surface! And it tracks so well. I can never say I died to my mouse not being where I thought it should be. It's really precise and even tracks perfectly if you lift it a little off the pad! The regular mouse buttons have a tactile feel that the Sidewinder is missing. A++! The Sidewinder immediately started grinding into my Ratz Pad just then. I tossed it back into it's box as it already ate one of these up before.

But like I said I don't like the side buttons. They are just too hard to press for my thumb and it annoys me that I paid pretty good money for unusable extra buttons. It irks me to no end. I guess if your thumb is in good working order you'll love this mouse as it has macro capabilities for days! You can even download them from Corsair. You can change the mouse dpi speed on the fly in increments of 100 on a 100 - 5700 scale, make macros that fire with a custom delay, etc. It's like having a keyboard with macro buttons. You can even reassign buttons to keys on your keyboard if you want.

So tech wise the M90 stomps the Sidewinder. But I want my finger rest back so bad. Wish I could glue it on!

OP, I think you might just have to get used to any new mouse you get. I have a Sidewinder X8 that is acting up and got a Razer Naga 2012 to replace it. At first it felt super awkward and unusable...I absolutely hated it, but after a couple weeks I'm totally digging it...plus the multiple side buttons means I can map the back and forward buttons in the one over the other style config that my X8 has (which is a fucking AWESOME way to put those buttons, have NO CLUE as to why it isn't done more...makes more sense, is more comfortable, and way more ergonomic).

You might never find a perfect replacement, but trust me, any change is going to seem bad at first. You just have to get used to it bro!

Oh, duh, might look at getting the Tt eSPORTS Level 10 M mouse...seems large and has an adjustable height palm rest...seems to be a palm style mouse and was my initial choice for a replacement. Might actually still get one when I have the funds...honestly only picked up the Naga as I got a KILLER deal on it.

M95 looks like the frontrunner. Does it have buttons to switch DPI on the fly?

G700 is second, it's wireless, shit.
