Normally a donkey rolling around in the dirt isn't a tech news story...until Google Street View gets involved. You have to admit, the picture below does look kinda look like the car hit the donkey. ;)

"Our Street View teams take the safety of people and donkeys very seriously," the spokesperson said. "A review of our imagery confirms that we did not cause any harm to the donkey."

Clearly they are waiting for the jackass to get the hell outa the way.

the street view cars are driverless?

I always thought they send their interns in wild journeys around the road to for them.

Poor animal :(

Drivers are not their employees, at least around here. Pretty sure they save quite a bit of money because of that.

So is this a from a driverless car, or from a street view car? They are not the same.

Drive forward (north) from this location: http:///maps/WTT94

The sequence of events seems fairly clear.
I think the GM vehicle stopped and waited for the donkey to finish his dust bath and get out of the road. The vehicle then proceeds, leaving an apparently uninjured, untraumatized donkey standing by the side of the road.

Since when does that qualify as a street?

I would call it a path, possibly a trail...

broken link?

That's simply a donkey photobomb.

What. You think animals aren't smart enough to mess with Google like humans are?

The donkey is on its feet in one direction and on the ground after they pass it.

Yeah, its just a coincidence the donkey had a major coronary at the exact moment the vehicle passed it.

oh man....a donkey?!?!

Why couldn't be a deer? Deer atleast would taste better.

Seriously though...this says alot for the safety record of where we're at with all this stuff. Surely we can do better?

I've looked at all the images in all directions, and it's obvious that the other truck that came by hit the donkey while he was crossing the other side of the road - got knocked down, and then when the Google car came up, the donkey got up and walked off the road.

O f-ing bother. [H] is doing something to the links. This site is NOT what it once was.... :(

Try
goo dot gl slash maps slash T85E4

A lot of link shorteners have been very abused to provide ambush content and get around spam filters so most of the common ones are banned.

It's pretty obvious if you look at the dust clouds (hint the dust is behind the car while it's moving). The pictures show that the donkey wonders off and into the brush if you are moving in the same direction as the car.

Total non-story.

Actually, im a professional driver working as a shuttle driver for a large software maker that's not Google. I have seen this sort of thing and have professional training to deal with it.

Basically what happens is donkeys will often take fall's behind your vehicle in front of a camera, and then try to sue you for injury. I don't really blame the donkey's, but lawyers. Its just a sad case of our justice system being broken, not a donkey getting hit by a car.

They drive on the left side of the road there. The donkey is on the ground rolling around in the dirt as the vehicle approaches and on it's feet having walked several yards past where it rolled around.
