and no not a home NAT router, an actual router, BGP etc..

a client of mine is finally upgrading his multiple 100mbit WANs and as such, the old Cabletron routers he is using need to go, looking for something that will handle multiple gige WAN, IPv4/6, IPv6 BGP

looking for something I can find off-lease/used off eBay, so obviously budget is a concern ($60k Cisco routers were ruled out unfortunately)

Check out the upcoming ubiquiti edge routers. I believe they support bgp. Obviously that's low end. Kind of need a budget to give you better options.

theres no real "budget", just looking for the most bang/buck option... especially since we would need to buy 2 or 3 of them due to the network configuration

been looking at Cisco 7606s?

location is a small datacenter with a couple fiber feeds coming in from different carriers

Look at Cisco asr 1001 agregated service router . They go higher in performance all the way to 100gb/s

Our 7606-S has been solid with two GigE connections and BGP. For what it's worth.

If you only need Ethernet connections, you could try a high end switch. The HP 5800 and up will do bgp.
But if the client has the need for multiple 100 mb connections, their uptime requirements probably also include better than eBay.

Ubiquiti's edgerouter lite is a impressive device IF you use it for its intended purpose. Unfortunately I don't think it will actually be available in Retail until Feb.

I don't know if Juniper is out of the question, but the MX5 (license restricted MX80) might work. Includes 20 1G SFP port MIC and full scale L3 license. That said still going to be 10-20k.

But can it forward at l3 rates that high?

like I said this is budget limited, we are looking at used 7606s off of ebay, seems like you can put a decent setup together for like $6k

but I was wondering if there was a better bang/buck setup

whatever we go with we are going to get 3 (two online and one spare)
