I recall there being two side, red and blue. It was somewhat like an RTS game. You controlled a main "character" that was a jet/plane but he could transform to a walking robot as well.

Your goal, IIRC, was to build an army to attack and defend. You basically had a home base/port where you're main unit would fly over it, pick up whatever unit you ordered/needed and then you'd fly and place it where ever you wanted/need it.

Your main character could also attack both the air and ground; but you would normally let the stuff you picked up do the fighting for you so you wouldn't get killed.

I have a faint memory of the game, as I never owned it I only rented it whenever I could.

Damn I never played that game, looks koo as foo hmmm gonna set up my Dreamcast to my 55inch 120Hz Sanyo today and play this off the Gens Emu burnt CD-R with 500+ games

Just play Air Mech, it's basically a modern version of the game and it's free.

My name is tdnSkillz in the game, I just got off but I will definitely be playing tomorrow.

i never knew air mech was based off of some old game.

air mech is free to play aka pay to win for better ships and stuff.

I remember playing Herzog Zwei a lot on my Genesis. Between that game and F-117 Nighthawk... man the memories.

Oh and LHX Attack Helicopter I think was the name. Basically the same as F-117, but with a stealth helicopter instead.

The maps were better in Herzog. Air Mech has no boat warfare either. Still a good game though.

I've only played one game and I haven't played Herzog in two decades. Can't really remember it that much.

AirMech is still in Alpha testing though, so a lot could still change or be added.

Herzog Zwei was the first thing that came to my mind based on your description as well. Good game, surprisingly addictive back in the day. For some reason I remember really liking the music from that game.

I thought by reading the first few words it was General Chaos. :(

hehhh i remember swapping 5.25" discs to get LHX Attack Chopper to run  soo advanced, stupid thing was a Surface to Air magnet :p

I really like herzog zwei and quite surprised many others here know of and played it. My favorite thing to do is to encroach slowly on the cpu base. Take the closest base to his HQ. Then start mass producing the antiair tanks. Build like 20 and slowly surround his hq. Everytime he spawns he would get blown up. Since hes now spawned trap, send one lone foot soldier and blow his base up.

BTW, I got codes in my manual for last boss for both sides in herzog zwei. If you want ill go dig it out.

I used to love that game and the F-117 Nighthawk game. I would literally play them for hours on end. I'd always play custom games though. Load a crap ton of enemies both surface and air and then go to town destroying them all.

Being that I was like some where around 8 years old at the time, it took me a while to learn what I was doing since things like laser guided missiles and how they worked were new to me and the controls in the cockpit for flying took me a little while to learn as well.

I recall doing similar things; but I've done stuff like that in almost all RTS games. Even C&C and SC. In C&C I'd destroy everything but their command post and a harvester. Let them rebuild while I hold back for a little while, rinse and repeat. I'd do similar things with SC as well, but it was a little more difficult in SC.

If you guys are playing Air Mech, add me as a friend.

tdnSkillz is my name in game.

50+ Genesis games and a couple of years of sega Channel and I have never seen, played, or herd of this game.

I now feel inferior in my sega knowledge but I guess I did spend most of my time on Shining force 2, Landstalker, and Phantasy star 2..............and stupid games that are somehow bad ass like Flicky and Shadow Blasters.

Damn if u guys love that u should try Sins of a Solar Empire

Cliffs before I Google it?

It's a must have game for any Genesis fan for sure. Game is very addicting and fast paced.

Herzog Zwei.

End of discussion.

It was the grandfather of RTS.

ps, there is a modern one in beta right now called AirMech.

EDIT: only read the OP and didn't read the responses. Either way, Herzog Zwei was the shizit.

You should probably read the topic before replying, but thanks.

Sins of a Solar Empire...

It's really geared towards people who love to build a strong defense and complete research trees. The maps are massive, randomly generated and have no real terrain you can take advantage of.

Personally I love it, I love to build up my bases slowly into epicness and steamroll the enemy, and thats pretty much what the game is.

I found my favourite music track in the game :p

The game was addictive as crack for 3 days but then it wore off. The AI was so brutally efficient that you had to learn how to turtle. There was a defensive shape that you could form, that the AI could not effectively comprehend and overcome.

I've been playing air mech a good bit. Haven't done PvP yet, just PvC. Haven't lost a game yet, but im far from good. Getting used to the controls with a keyboard has taken some learning with so many keyboard shortcuts.
