Foxconn Sued By Family of Brain-Damaged Worker

You have to get used to people not treating people like people in these ... wastelands.

Can you prove that, without federal funding for schools, or increasing spending on federal subsidies, our schools would not have fallen drastically more in achievement than we have? There are too many factors involved for you to be able to state that an increase in spending would not have a positive, net, effect. The no child left behind act, imho, significantly impaired our teachers and schools ability properly to educate our kids. It is, in at least equal parts, how much is spent on education and how what is spent is utilized in educating.

That's the kind of cop out of an argument that leads to the continuation of failed policies and the mis-allocation of tax dollars. 30+ years (spread across 8 administrations and a plethora of congresses) of data without being able to establish even a weak tread, regardless of other factors, strongly suggests increased funding is not having much of an effect on educational effectiveness.

I'm not saying that spending has no influence on educational effectiveness, however, I would say that it seems we've reached the point of severely diminished returns. What I'm really suggesting is that we may want to look at other options. Perhaps increasing parent's choice in schools would be an option. A means tested voucher program maybe? I don't have the answer, but it seems that simply spending more isn't the answer.

dump all standardized tests other than SAT and ACT, and reward schools accorded to performance on those.

No child left behind was a horrible idea.

I don't know about grade school, and junior high, I went to private schools, we had yearly tests, but I don't think they were related to federal funding.

Me thinks you do not understand economics and have been listening to Obama and the democrats too much. If you raise the minimum wage (or set one at all) you in turn will raise the cost of EVERYTHING (read: inflation) which then causes your buying power to stay the same...

And yes, these people need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and take some personal responsibiltly... we all did.
Finally someone else on the planet that understands this. I explain this to people and just get blank stares. Another thing about raising minimum wage is that in essence everyone who makes over minimum wage actually gets a pay CUT. People just don't get that when minimum wage goes up everyone gets poorer.

Laws are the only thing keeping you from being a menace to society?
Please explain to the class what you think would happen to the country if tomorrow there were no laws or authority figures to enforce them. Seriously, I want to smoke pot with you and your hippy friends in this Rainbow Land utopia.

Not that I advocate religion, but wtf do you thing religion is but an extra-governmental system of laws and ethics enforced through the threat of eternal damnation. Other major religions/belief systems are similar in effect, like buddhism. There are other cultural factor that influence this. Religion is there for a lowest common denominator, laws are there to enforce it more broadly.

A sniper would probably take you out after too much cocaine and whiskey.

Seriously, you're telling LeninGHOLA that and his friends are hippies? Have you not interacted with him before? Or me, for that matter?

Does empiricism matter at all to you?

It's funny when they argue up both sides of the fence without realizing the absurdity.

But which one is the Libertarian?! *shellgame*

Trick question! You can't see them because they're in their bunker with their canned goods and weapons. They connect to the internet via a can with a string attached. The bitrate is terrible.

It's sad that Foxconn is taking it to this point, but there is a silver lining.

Because China lacks regulations to prevent Foxconn from doing this the family can now sue, and win damages.

Same as if some government oversight comity policed and created regulations. But without the government.

That is provided that the family wins enough in damages to cover medical expenses.

Outcome will be interesting.
