DVD Ripping software

Hey Everyone,

I have to get rid of all my DVDs to clear out some room for my son and I'm wanting to rip everything to my HDDs. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best DVD ripping software to use for this? I'm pretty new to ripping DVDs so if you have a link to a tutorial that would be great as well.

If at all possible it would be great if the software was free. I have heard of Handbrake but I'm not sure if that's all I would need for what I'm doing.

I would prefer to rip the DVD to an mpeg or some other similar format but if it had to stay an ISO file I suppose that would be ok.

Thanks in advance.

Freemake is a good ripper/converter that also includes CUDA support (which is something other free rippers/converters don't have).

The issue you're going to have is copy protection and I don't know whether or not Freemake can handle that or not. Typically anything copy protected, I rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter but the issue you'll have there is, you're left with .vob files, not mpeg. Then again, you could always watch those files in something like VLC anyway.

http://makemkv.com/ is super simple. You get an MKV file that you can play. If you ever need an ISO, you can search for an MKV -> ISO converter.

Another option is RipIt4Me + DVD Decrypter + DVDShrink + FixVTS will work for most too. You can choose to end up with a folder of files or an ISO. You basically tell RipIt4me to rip the disc and it'll launch DVD Decrypter, rip the DVD to a folder and pass it on to DVD Shrink for processing (where you can then reauthor it if needed) where you can just choose to back it up as an ISO that VideoLan can play etc.

Doom9.net has downloads for some of them. You can find the others by searching google.com.
