iPhone 5 & You: What Are You Doing?

Moving from 3GS to 5 soon.

This upgrade makes sense to me. I don't understand the 4S -> 5 upgrade.

I have a 4S for work, and I have no desire to upgrade. I don't even use my 4S, it is forwarded to my personal GNex 95% of the time anyway.

Yeah, its been a long time, I think it's about that time.

I have the 4 and will be getting the 5. My home button is acting a little freaky.

Im going from a Galaxy Nexus and my Fiancee is going from a iPhone 4.

We both got our preorders in on time and will get the phones next friday.

I'll MOST likely be going from the Verizon 4 to the Verizon 5. My top power button is busted to shit, battery is garbage, phone is slower than molasses. Hopefully this one's a big improvement. The only thing really keeping me on the iPhone train is that a lot of my friends have them, so iMessage is extra convenient, and I FaceTime like a boss, too used to everything. Though I do wish the Lumia 920 was coming to Verizon...I'm basically going to walk into my local store here on Friday and pick one up, just like I did 2 years ago. First one there, first one to leave.

Have a 4, pre-ordered the 5 this morning. I've got so much music I pretty much had to go with the 64GB version. Right now I'm so low on space with my 4 that I can't even download any app updates.

While I'm not exactly sold on anything new with the iPhone 5, I have so many apps I've gotten over the years that it's kind of pointless to swap over to anything else.

Wife says that she wants an iPhone 5 so I'll be buying it outright. It looks to be a nano SIM though so I'll need to cut her micro SIM and than sand it down since they are 15% thinner. We were just at the AT&T store an hour ago, she was much more impressed with the Galaxy Note than the S3 so I don't even know what to say.

Why wouldn't you just go to the AT&T store? They will make you a new SIM for free in like 5 minutes.

I'm in a awkard spot. I have an iPhone 4 which I've had since the release in my country, so about 2 years in a few weeks.

It still works fine but from time to time its not really that snappy and I have some antenna problems (a friend of mine (iphone 4S) has the same carrier but gets 3G at places where I get Edge).
Another thing: my home buttons is starting to act up. Tried recalibration but it did nothing. I guess its because of condensation because I take the phone with me to the gym.
Replacing it costs about 60 euros which imo is too much.

I don't like the android operating system.
I don't like the lack of apps on windows phone 7,7.5,8... whatever it is these days.

I guess I'll just wait till the reviews come out and decide then but I have been spoiled by apple so I'm not sure if there is any other phone I want to work with ^^.

To me, it's just a matter of accumulating plenty of apps for the iPhone over the last few years. There's nothing special about the iPhone 5 or the new iOS...but I don't really care for any of the other phones out there either. To me Android always feels like a souped up Honda Civic. It might perform well, but it's still just a Civic. At the same time, iOS feels like an old Porche. It's a Porsche, but it's missing lots of newer features.
Makes me really wonder what the phone wars will be like in another 18 months.

Got kinda screwed, but I'll live. Like 1000's of others I was trying to use the Apple site and tried to keep refreshing the store page, but even at 3:20am ET it was saying try back later. So I tried the AT&T site and it seemed to at least go further, but kept timing out during the upgrade check.
Finally at 340 I got smart and googled it and discovered that there was a 'special' link to use to upgrade on the apple site. However by the time I used the link, it too was hosed.
However I saw comments that using the apple store app would work. So tried to order my wife and I 32GB iphone5 and during checkout it said only one upgrade per order. So I decided to do it one at a time. I purchased my black one first and then the wife's white one. Only problem is by the time i was able to complete my wife's order, the confirmation already said shipping in two weeks.

I completed my purchase for a 32GB black iphone 5 at the Apple Store around 2:24 am CST. Says it will be delivered on 9/21.

Will probably order a 5 this weekend, up from a 3GS that is almost unusable at times. I swear that Apple purposely downgrades the performance of older models by 5% each and every update.

Um, no. They add more features which use more resources.
Wouldn't have used the 3GS past ios4 if I still had one.

I'm in the same mind state. My iPhone 4 worked perfectly fine. After the 4S all the sudden I started getting these temporary freezes or pauses with the most mundane things such as unlocking the damn phone. Now, safari crashes when just adding another tab, phone freezes for longer than usual. I don't get get it. I only upgraded from the original droid because verizon was killing the unlimited plan and I had to get a new plan or go on a month to month tiered plan. The iPhone 4 was the next best thing in battery life compared to my droid since all the others had horrible battery life. My usage is the same, youtube, netflix, music, forum browsing. Yet the phone has just gotten worse as Apple added new features that were on my damn ancient driod to begin with (notifications) slows my phone to an F'ing crawl.

got my mom her preorder-ill wait in line--

saw this on anandtech comments

Upgrading from a Droid 2 to the iP5. Not looking forward to replacing my apps or losing widgets, but it's cheap through work, so...

Got my pre-order in this morning at 3:20 eastern.
I have an unlocked iPhone 4 right now and I grudgingly decided to stick with AT&T. I really really wanted to switch to Verizon, but I couldn't swallow the $30 a month increase in my bill for the exact same plan.

IMO ATT is the better provider. You might get better service at times with Verizon but you cant use data and voice at the same time. Also the service will probably be improved with the 5 (not just LTE but older generations as well).

I cheaped out and got the 16GB. I would have liked the 32 but I havesomewhat of a budget atm and couldnt really justify it. The majority of my space is taken up by music. Movies are on the iPad and I cant see myself listening to ~10GB of music a day. Plus my iPhone 4 is now my carPod.

I'll be waiting for the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6. Still under contract with my 4S, but still don't plan on upgrading until 2014.

From Evo 4G to iPhone 5; just ordered on Sprint and they're still showing delivery for the 21st.

Got a 4s for $100 from AT&T and a $100 credit through bitching about their poor service, so free upgrade.

I have a 4S. I'm using a family member's upgrade for the 5 and giving them my 4S. I pre-ordered through AT&T. At the time, the delivery date was 9/21.

Pre-ordered in person this morning at my local best buy. I'm the 5th person to pre-order any of the iphone 5's at that store; so here is hoping I am able to get one.

Apparently the entire stock was wiped out within an hour. There are claims that the ATT and VZW preorders grossly overstated their stock.

Ruh roh.

I would be shocked if any store actually sold out on the first day. This isn't Apple's first rodeo.

Yeah...sounds a little fishy to me. I'd be surprised if they had none on the first day Verizon started publicly selling them. We'll see.

AT&T has come a long way since the days of the first iphones. I work on AT&T's LTE rollout project (I'm with another company though), and let me tell you, they are super stringent on making sure everything works great, with no performance degradation. They are very anal about it now. Sucks for me when I have to do reports, but it's good for customers since we all will have a more reliable data network.

keeping my 4s 32gb for a little while, upgraded (via preorder) my wifes 4 16gb with the 5s white 16gb

ill upgrade mine soon enough....

they pay for themselves when you can sell the 4s on ebay for over $200 and buy the 16gb 5s for $199....

That's nice to hear :)

My only complaint with my iPhone 4 on ATT is that I lose service when going through an underground tunnel from Manhattan to Long Island. The loss in service is not what seems illogical to me but that the other passangers on the train who seem to still be browsing and making calls.

I'm going to upgrade, but I'm still trying to decide if I want to drop my grandfathered unlimited data for the cheaper subsidized iPhone5, or just fork over mass amounts of cash to keep the unilimited data with Verizon...

Fork the cash, you'll laugh at everyone else complaining about the Verizon plans in a month.

Replacing a 16gb 3GS with a 32gb 5. The 3GS ordered it's replacement at midnight (PST) with the apple store app. I skipped the 4S because it didn't have a bigger screen or LTE.

It's possible that AT&T doesn't have any femto cells set up along that route, while others do? Not really sure. RF propagation is a really tricky thing sometimes, especially in a highly reflective environment like that.

No voice and data at the same time on Verizon over LTE, but you can over WiFi as the iPhone 5 only has a single LTE antenna. That would be a BIG killer for me as I don't know how many times I've needed too look up something while I'm on a phone call.

And there's NO WAY I'd go back to ATT. I paid over $600 to get out of my contract. Their coverage at my work is awesome at 20-80 Kb/s on 4G. They just can't handle the high number of phones in such a small area. Verizon gives me 5-6 Mb/s on LTE while at work

iPhone 4 to iPhone 5. I generally get a new phone when my 2-year contract runs out, and in this case it was two years and four months. Works just fine for me.

Also switching from AT&T to Verizon, very happy about that.

Can't upgrade until 7/7/2013 so by that time the 5S will probably be out and I can consider that.
