I just have to state it here.

The screens are just so bad it's hilarious. Max brightness is sad, and WHITE is not a color this screen technology can display -> Sad dull light grey is its best approximation.

It's shocking, disgusting, and saddening that NO ONE in the current Tech journalism state bothers to point this out.

Well it's because people are so blinded by hype that they like to disregard things like that. I'm still in a market for a new phone and I have yet to find one appealing. I do want to switch to Android to try out, but I need a compelling reason to. SIII is just a stop gap phone.

Looks at sig. Why am I not surprised at the troll attempt?

Also, refraxion, who is your carrier or are you doing prepaid?

I've owned Droids to Razrs and Galaxy Nexuses. The Droid was my favorite at the time, and now? There are so few alternatives to Apple products because they are all so inferior in so many different ways!

And yes, I would have an HTC One X by now if Verizon friggin smartened up!

I really wanted a larger screen phone for my upgrade, but it looks like I don't even have options anymore on Verizon, and the best I can do is a iPhone 5?

The really sickening part to all of this is that my new favorites, Windows Phones and Lumias, all friggin use AMOLEDs.

AMOLEDS please die in a FIRE!!!

This, lol.
Unless they somehow botched the S3, I find S2's look pretty good. Same with iPhones

I put my iPhone 4S up to several GS3s at the Verizon store. Roughly 40% brightness in my iPhone equates to max brightness on the GS3.

And with that max brightness, it can display a bluish greyish tinted background for sites like Wikipedia. The fact that the screen technology can't display white is just infuriating and what pisses me off the MOST is that other tech people and journalists can't seem to care or be bothered by it!

Oh lawd at the bolded part. Not gonna get in this argument here, but since you have almost all Apple anyways, I can see why you prefer to have an Apple phone(Don't they have some kind of overall sync thingy?)

And I agree on the second part, Verizon are fucking retarded for never choosing phones that everyone wants.(S3 is good though, but everyone got that).

Wonder how many even know to turn off the color tone adjustment in power or display options somewhere that's enabled by default? Whites look like ass with it enabled. Coworker had his phone for about a month until I showed him, his response was "Holy shit" when I turned it off

Screen looks pretty damn good to me.

If any of the products you bash had an apple logo on it, we would be hearing the opposite of this thread - how the AMOLED has amazing contrast ratio, the blackest blacks, and super awesome power efficiency.

I have no problem with you stroking your apple boner -- but please do it in the apple section.

It's hilarious to watch an apple Fanboi speak of "inferior" one look at the iMac or macbook pro specs and "inferior" slaps you square in the face for the price you pay.

All kidding aside though -- would you be interested in buying some iLube? It's a super secret project jobs was working on to increase the efficiency and speed which which he fucks you and your wallet up the ass. $89.99 for a 3oz bottle.

LOL, look Apple hate!

LOL, the 27" iMac is a 27" IPS Monitor ($1000) + Computer inside. Inferior yet?

Macbook Pro inferior? In what land? Oh, in the land where every single product out there from HP to Asus seeks to outright copy the Macbook lines.

I build my own gaming systems and prefer Windows in general, but god damn if right now, NO one can make a decent product that competes with Apple. NO ONE.

Apparently this option doesn't exist in the US Versions.

The AMOLED screen on my Galaxy Note looks awesome with pretty damn good whites! Not PERFECT but certainly white and not pinkish or greenish or grayish.

Now I know the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 had tints to their whites. Notes fare a lot better in this regard.

i love mine  they're fucking phones, people. why people complain to the point it seems they have some crazy agenda against one or the other is beyond me. get over it.

AMOLEDs have drawbacks, and so do all other screens.

OP, WTF would you want anything besides an iPhone for with all the Apple buy-in you have already? Wouldn't you rather have a phone that sync's more easily with all the other iDerps you have?

I recommend you post this thread on some other Apple-centric forum so you can start a big circle-jerk there, because you certainly won't get that here.

Wow, you are from 5 years ago aren't you?

Everything is in the cloud and cross-platform, syncing is the least of your worries today.

Welcome to 2012!

Just be happy with what you have.

Oh'rearry? So you can sync your contacts/media/messages on an Android phone to the iCloud and visa versa?

Welcome to [H], where dumbshit comments like that don't fly.

Regardless, this thread is straight retarded and nothing constructive will come out of it. The "outrage" doesn't have to start somewhere, because you're horribly exaggerating it. That's why "NO ONE in the current Tech journalism state bothers to point this out."

If it's that big of an issue for you and you wanted to fix it, you'd know that there are several kernels out there that allow you to adjust the display to however you like it. Might not help the brighness, but it helps a lot with the whites on my Gnex (not that I thought it was a big issue to begin with).

This thread is hilarious. You know how ridiculous this makes you look, OP? OLED is a categorically better technology.

The SGS3 uses a PenTile screen, which I've found to be inferior to RGB AMOLED. My SGS2 (RGB 800x480) next to my friend's SGS3 (PenTile, 1280x720) has sharper text in the same apps/screens and displays a more natural color palette (yes, even white). However, for a mobile phone, the PenTile display is adequate in most cases.

Wow, you really are showing your ignorance!

Google syncs across Calendar, Contacts, Mail... Everything in Mountain Lion. It also syncs across all of iOS. Google Drive does this for files as well.

SkyDrive has a native client for iOS, Mountain Lion, and Windows as well.

Dropbox has... shall I go on?

Your shit isn't going to fly here in [H] because you clearly have no where near the tech knowledge or use that you go by. LOL, syncing and iCloud. iCloud is what we call a beta product, to even mention it seriously... hah!

/One Google Account that rules them all.

I will have to look at some non-Pentile screens, but so far, I've only seen really bad whites on the AMOLEDs I've seen, wasn't aware of whether they were or weren't Pentile.

None of that works natively in either OS or works as well as their respective native sync features, therefor is pretty much horseshit. Google Drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox, etc. only sync files, not contacts, pics, music , or anything else.

Try again..? ;)

Are you crazy? I don't use iCloud. Perhaps you can learn a few tips here:

Address book/Contacts has a button called: Synchronize with GOOGLE. Native!

Mail can add Google as an Exchange account. Native!

Calendar/Outlook can use Google Accounts and syncs with Google Calendar perfectly. Native!

G Drive appears as a folder in Finder or Windows. Native!

Did you forget you're in a "Mobile Phones" subforum. We're not talking about desktop OS's here.

Try again..lol

Isn't the Galaxy Note AMOLED Plus and the S3 just Super AMOLED? I remember opening my S3 and the front plastic protector not saying anything about "plus".

I have found that my Note gets so bright that it actually hurts to look at it when held up close, while the S3 is just average in terms of brightness.

I'm in Canada and using Fido (Rogers). And am on a plan right now. Selections of phones in Canada is meh to say the least. The iPhone and the SGS line is pretty much the only selection worth getting

The "+" at the end denotes RGB whereas without it is pentile RGBG.

Yeah the Notes screen all around rocks. I honestly think (and I am pretty much sure of the factually) that the Note is easily the best phone screen out there. High resolution screen with great colors and size...awesome.

The Note 2, while nice, has a lower resolution screen than the original Note despite being larger. It's still not a "Plus" screen either to get rid of Pentile =(

Original Galaxy Note is not a plus screen. It's also PenTile (RGBG).

Galaxy S - 800x480 Super AMOLED (PenTile)
Galaxy S II - 800x480 Super AMOLED Plus (RGB)
Galaxy S III - 1280x720 Super AMOLED HD (PenTile)
Galaxy Note - 1280x800 Super AMOLED HD (PenTile)
Galaxy Note II - 1280x720 Super AMOLED HD (PenTile)
Droid RAZR - 960x540 Super AMOLED "Advanced" (PenTile), the "advanced" moniker being Motorola's claim, not Samsung's. This was Samsung selling Moto the first gen screen uses in the first SGS, just at qHD resolution.

The GSIII's screen isn't that bad, but I did prefer the SLCD on my Rezound. Of course its whites and brightness as a whole were far better. AMOLED's on the Samsung phones have greyish whites and the colors can be too saturated at times.

Specs my friend specs -- for each dollar spent on any piece of computer hardware -- you will also wind up with less memory, less hard drive space, and less gigahertz.

If one's priority is looks then you got it made. the 27" sexy IPS with moderate specs... $1840with tax my friend just looked on their website - thats for 4GB of ram, 1TB hdd, and a crappy 6970M gpu. For that same amount of money I can build something that doesn't look as good but will run circles around that Apple hardware (and be fully serviceable and upgrade able as well) I really don't know where you got the $1000 figure from -- the 27" model starts at 1700 dollars.

Even their top range 27" model only comes with 4GB from the factory -- sure you can bump it to 16GB for another $300 dollars. An extra 12GB = 300 dollars?

I won't argue that they have some cool designs - I do like the sleek smooth look they generally produce. But that look alone is not worth the huge premium along with being stuck with limited hardware. I build my computer to work and to play - not to impress some friends or the hot barista @ starbucks who will only give you a blowjob if you have the latest and greatest iphone tucked under your nuts.

You strike me as the type of fellow who car salesmen love -- have you ever happily bought the undercoating and special space time hyper wax for the low low price of $799 rolled into the financing?

The screen is fine. Brightness does not always equal better. The fact that it uses PenTile is practically unnoticeable unless you are specifically looking for it, at 1280x720 it makes for a sharp looking screen regardless. The only real problem I have with the phone is the outrageous color, the gamut is way too large and makes the screen over saturated.

If you actually use your phone at night the brighter LCD screen will look washed out next to AMOLED screen regardless of the brightness advantage. The phone does not have an infinite contrast ratio (S3 US) but it is very close. I'd put the black level a hair below my 9g Pioneer Kuro after comparing them in a pitch black room. Comparing my iPhone 4g to the S3 and there is no contest, the S3 looks more vibrant and although not as sharp it is more than sharp enough. Unless you use your phone in the sun a lot the AMOLED screens are better IMHO.
