I have this high frequency whizzing noise comming from the back of the monitor, Eizo SX2762W

Doing a search on the internet I found several forum threats saying It could be the backlight modulator.
Changing the brightness setting from either 0 to 100% or somewhere inbetween does not solve this.
I bought the monitor in february, in may I decided to RMA the monitor to Eizo Service (Uniserv GmbH in Germany) within a week I received the monitor back. "Test ok, Noise within spec"
Or they didn't had the noise when testing the unit or Eizo started to make bad power supplies?
If the sound is normal it should be there all the time I guess not sometimes, to me it sounds like a whizzing capacitor.

Anyone else ever experienced this?
I have had several Eizo monitors before, this is the first one that has this annoying noise sometimes.

I recorded the noise

I'm only posting this to say that I feel sorry for you and that terrible noise. That is the most annoying thing I've heard in my life. I'd rather listen to a dog howl than be forced to listen to that while trying to be productive on my PC. I'd have to write the company back and tell them that it's so annoying could they please send you a replacement as you just can't take that annoying sound.

Tell them that your little child holds her ears when you cut the PC on and cries. That would do it! It isn't lying and that's what I would do if you cut it on around me!

Thanks for the supportive reply, I'm gonna write Eizo about this.
I hope they are willing to replace the monitor by hearing the audio record, sending the monitor back and forth to the repair service will not solve the problem.
Its not something to expect from a €1500 monitor, some people indeed has to work in front of them all day long.

I forgot to mention this before, but i'm aware of the fans since the review of TFT-Central.

But for sure its are not the fan's, they don't make noise like that but different although I haven't heard the fans in the Eizo before.

The noise is more like a whining capacitor to me, its only coming from the upper right side (front) so thats the PSU board (and a fan :)) as seen on the photo.

Let's assume it are the fans, why is it some days when its warm in my room and the monitor has been on for hours not hearing this noise and the other day when its very cold let say 18c room temperature and the monitor is just on the noise is there?
(Never gets any warmer in the room than around 26c above that temperature the A/C will be on)

So if it are fan's making this increddible painfull noise why are these fan's used in premium monitors and never used in cheap hardware which also contain fans?
I never ever heard this kind of noise coming out of electronic equipment that even has small fans inside.

At this very moment the monitor has been on for about 2 hours and the room temperature is 23.2c the monitor is death silence right now.

I do have the monitor connected to USB for easy control using ScreenManager, why?

Eizo being a small company means their quality control is bad. I'm not sure if that monitor usually makes that noise but it sounds very annoying. I would take it back and get a refund ASAP.

I would actually expect even better care and quality control from smaller companies than the big mass production ones?
Before I have had several Eizo monitors and every one of them was great, never had any trouble before.

Probably the noise didn't occur during the test as for the most of the time its not present, this is also why I don't RMA the monitor again, if they had a good repair service they would replace the PSU since its obvious the noise is from a bad cap when listened from the recording.
So where is Eizo its 5 years ON-site warranty? :)

Eizo doesn't have bad quality control, what is your basis for that opinion? They're not really a small company. They do a lot of work for the professional and gaming (read: gambling) industry, which are all markets that require rock solid products. The 5 year warranty alone proves that they are confident in their product. Many smaller companies actually produce better quality products because that's all they do. Look at most high end audio companies.

Capacitors die and suffer from defects, what is new. It might surprise Ingenieur7 but larger companies like Samsung do suffer from the same problems, if not more significantly.

For the thread starter, I'd send them that noise clip and demand they solve the problem. You did pay out of your nose for it so they should provide you a flawless monitor.

Edit: Actually, I'm fairly certain you're affinity_12 who recently banned for stooging. Which kind of defeats this defense to be honest because affinity_12 posted that thread before you and seems to have the exact same opinions as you. You know, opinions like how NEC makes bad quality monitors because they're a small company.

Tommye, that is what I thought about Eizo too, they never let me down as it comes to satisfaction, this is my 4th Eizo monitor and all of them are still working perfect (except for this one with the noise :) )

I do play games occasionally and I care about picture quality, Eizo has always worked on great balance between acceptable input lag and color accuracy this is also why they do so well in eSports now.
4 years ago when I told my game mates I use Eizo monitors they didn't even knew the brand.

I have wrote an email the local Eizo dealer, they respond instantly on the email and based on my audio record and previous RMA they gonna find the best solution, and they gonna contact the RMA service about this.

That said I think the noise was not normal to him either.

Update:

Eizo gave me a new monitor instead of RMA my monitor.

I'm very happy with this solution, Ingenieur7 small companies do have better service, all communication via email (via AVNet distributor of Eizo) was personally and they replied instantly.

Ya eizo is pretty much top end stuff, I just got a MX241w for my dad. They do RMA/warranty via serial number even without invoice and it is 5 years. It look like a well built tank next to the dell 2410.

Got a killer deal on the Radiforce. I think some IT company order too many for the local HMO or something. Paid 250 for NIB. Was temped to get 3 for eyefinity, but already got 3008 for myself. Think would be sort of down grade. Dad is retired prof, He is using Eizo, while mom using dell 2410. =). So yes, pretty much eizo and dell is for web browsing, and video =).

I share that positive experience. When I got my SX2411W (or whatever the number is), the screen would lean to the left slightly - which was a bit irritating and distracting. I contacted my supplier, who in turn contacted AVNet, and they sent out a replacement stand immediately. I received it next day. They didn't even want the old stand back, let alone wait for it back before sending the replacement.

I know this may not sound like much but the stand is a seriously sturdy bit of kit and probably costs £50, so to just send one out like that on an overnight courier - no questions asked - was pretty good service if you ask me.

I am now considering another Eizo, so good service does pay!
