Hey, you know that cool cyberlocker you were paying to store all your copyright infringing content? You know what else you can buy there? All your personal data, including your IP address and banking information.

A cyberlocker being sued for $34.8 million by an adult studio agreed in principle to a remarkable set of demands to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit. TorrentFreak has learned that file-hosting service Oron said it would turn over the IP addresses, banking details and email addresses of users alleged to have infringed copyright. The troubled cyberlocker then offered to assist plaintiff Liberty Media in civil prosecutions against its own customers.

Shouldn't that be illegal? Just because I consent to give my banking info to one party, does not mean that I authorize that party to share it with someone else.

Depends what's in their terms and conditions I suppose. I'm sure that when people signed up there was a little bit about cooperating with the law etc etc.

Many times in TOS, they explicitly express they are able to share data to their "partners".

I just know, they walked in porn stars and gave the board the benefit of making their own POV movie.

Depends on what you agreed to in the small print, probably something along the lines of them doing whatever they want with your personal information.

Legally Terms of Service do not make anything a certainty. They do offer leverage for law suits, but they don't guarantee liability or other claims. So if it is illegal for a company to share your information without your direct and fully informed consent, then the Terms of Service will likely be dismissed in court.

Anyway, what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Its 100% illegal, as a -CORPORATION- is not allowed to divulge its customers information without a court order if said information is going to be used in a civil or federal trial, or said information has to deal with suspected terrorist activities

This is going to be flat out fucking hilarious when all of its customers information it gave away come back with a class action lawsuit and fucking destroy them

Aren't copyright infringement in that realm now?

Only when brought by the government, which pretty much means only mass scale infringements (piracy for money), not downloading or sharing.

The studios/associations only can bring civil suits.

I'm not a lawyer, but if I was, I'd endorse this statement. :p

Sharing banking info? Oh I can't wait for LibertyMedia to just drain the wrong persons account / run up charges.

Are you an expert on legality here, or are you just one of the poor saps who had illegal shit on their servers?
