OCZ Agility 3 120 gig SSD for 69.99 w/ free shipping.

I have two OCZ drives in use right now on different machines and couldn't be happier. I am starting to come to the conclusion that the OCZ hate is, at best, based on hearsay.

It isn't based on hearsay, they truly were unreliable.

10 firmware revisions ago.

On CyberMonday I got the Intel SSD 320 80GB for the same price AR, $70. Now you can get 50% more storage with a controller that's roughly twice as fast for the same price. And all this has come about in 6 months. You gotta love technology, both for making you broke, and for improving itself.

It's not, the Series 2 was beyond horrible, had terrible documentation, and had different variations without telling end-users.
OCZ has since picked up their game and have reliable since the Series 3.

My Agility 1 and 3 have been great.
But after reading a couple hundred threads about dead Series 2 SSDs, I decided to skip that generation of fail.

hmm...im wondering...is this worth a bite? i do need to upgrade to a ssd... someone convince me?

I'm running an Agility 3 60GB, and I can say it was a definite improvement over my Agility 1 60GB, and that was faster than any HDD RAID0 array I've ever had.

For that price, even sub-$100, is very good, especially for a 120GB model.

in other words, i should get it

No.. search for OCZ int he storage sub-forum for the 10, billion reasons why you shouldn't. And yes some people have not had a problem with there's.. But I also have a still running IBM 75 GXP (aka deathstar) HDD from the late 90's. A bad product isnt defined by the ones that work.. its defined by the ones that dont.

He is not lying - I went through hell on my Solid 3 - blue screens, stutters, crahses and reboot that said I had no ssd connected. Finally with the firmwares...(10 in all) it is running fine. I bit on the two vertex 3 because I have a vertex 2 that has been rock solid. and with the solid firmware working I felt confident I could get the vertex 3.

I got two in raid. and man..woooooosh.

I have one original OCZ 60GB Agility that is a great drive, never had any problems with it on my laptop... then I got a couple of more recent vertex plus and they were both unstable, and I kept trying each firmware as they came out and still they wouldn't work right, OCZ finally ended up giving me a refund for both, since I RMA'd them twice and they still didn't work with new drives and new firmware.

I haven't heard nearly as much bad stuff about the 3 series though.

Figured I'd chime in, I really wanted to love OCZ again, but got a Vertex 3 last week, installed Windows 7 on it and it started doing the random disappearing act, not a big deal, but the laptop and ssd were a anniversary gift and had to break it to my wife that she was stuck with the 750gb 5400 rpm drive until OCZ can acknowledge that it has problems and get me a replacement. Same thing my 2 Agility 2s did a year or so ago....but oddly enough I still have a Vertex 2 60gb in my netbook running perfect....

i think all SSD's are still in the infancy stage Yet ive never had a single problem w/ my 2x Vertex 2's, 1x Vertex 3 or my Agility 3.

So far they are rock solid on my setup.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this. I have an OCZ VertexLE 100GB that's been rock solid since I got it back in April 2011.

still.. 69.99.

Even so, $84.99 for a 120GB SSD is pretty damn good in and of itself.

I might jump on one of these cheap OCZ deals pretty soon just to have a dedicated gaming SSD. Reliability wouldn't be as important since it would be just games. I still don't think I'd trust OCZ as my OS drive though.

Probably gonna end up buying from both Amazon and TigerDirect. Have had Agility 60GB drives before, one did not perform well, but was taken care of by OCZ. Have 2 Solid 3 120GB drives that have been fine. Also have the Corsair Force 3 (equivalent drive) that has not given me issues. Of course I started buying and using them when the firmware issue was (mostly) taken care of.

Want, but do not want. I've been scared of OCZ products since they first started 10 years ago. It seems like every market they go into they build crap for a while before turning out anything decent. Not sure if they've turned the corners in SSDs yet. Such an amazing deal though.

Conflicted....

i think you have it backwards.. they build decent products, then turn a corner and build nothing but crap..

have either of you ever used OCZ products? sure the vertex 2 and 3 had issues when they first came out but all thats been ironed out.

I've been using their products since 2009 w/o a single problem.

Ram PSU's & SSD's here.. Some have been fine, but the rate of complete crap is high enough that I will spend an extra couple bucks on what I buy & not have the high failure rate.

The only positive about OCZ is that they know there crap is crap & wont give you too much flac about replacing it.

This deal saves 25 bucks over the recent deals on the 128gb m4. So is the 25 bucks savings worth the much higher chance of needing an RMA?

Here are some interesting notes for you. For work I bought about 30 of the Vertex 2 120GB for some development and production servers. Of those 30, 10 failed outright. I bought 15 of the Vertex 2 240GB for workstations and some servers that needed some additional storage on the OS drive. Of those 2 failed, but I suspect the one in my laptop is having issues (blue screens).

I'm in the process of replacing those with Vertex 3's (and now Vertex 4's since my supplier can't get the 3's anymore) and I haven't had a single failure (yet).

I, unfortunately, have no experience with the first series so I can't chime in there.

Personally, I bought 2 of the 120Agility 2's and had both of them fail. Their replacements have been cranking for months with no issue.
