i had whs 2003 installed with 2 drives, 3 tb off an hp mediasmart. The os must be corrupt cause i cant get into it.

I have whs 2011 installed on another computer. Is it possible to restore the whs 2003 data from whs 2011? I understand the data is spanned over my 2 drives -- that's why i can't just copy and paste it off the drive.

You should be able to access the data on any of the drives that haven't failed. Simply attach them to WHS 2011, hit the start button, type folder options, go to folder options and select the view tab, select "show hidden files and folders" then apply. Navigate to the drive(s) in question, and you should see a hidden folder named DE, open that folder and navigate to shares. Your data resides there. Pay no attention to any of the other folders except that one. The rest are tombstones for DE.

I'll give that a try thanks.

Another question:

What would account for only one of the partitions of a WHS 2003 drive being mounted. The rest of the data stays as unallocated space.
I.e. i plug the drive into my computer, and i only see a small partition on it. It is a 2tb drive, the partition mounted is like 20gb. Maybe the partition letter it needs to mount is taken by another drive?

Sure hope i didn't lose that data.

If the drive in question was the one you installed the OS on, the 20GB partition should be where the OS resides. The rest of the space should not show up as unallocated if you had any data on it. It should look like a regular NTFS volume labeled data. Looking @ Disk Manager, does the partition beyond the 20GB say unallocated ?
