Sniper Elite V2

Got in on the deal earlier for 29.99. Was pretty damn fun. Just wish it was more stealthy.

You finished the SP already? Maybe you or someone else can help me because I'm stuck.

Opernplatz. The first mission after the one where you get the Mosin Nagant.

The mission is to "secure plaza" and I've killed everyone there and I can't tell where I'm supposed to go or what to do next. I've been everywhere. If I hit tab it says Secure Plaza and there's no directional indicator or anything else.

If I hit M for map, the map has no objective marker, either.

What silly little step am I missing?

you might have missed a soldier some where, but you are supposed to go into the building on the right side of the map "if you are facing from your sniper position building"

I'll try that. Some folks on the Steam forum said to me that the mission is bugged and some of them said they had to restart it more than once for it to "take."

lol,

LOL

I will wait until this hits a steam sale for 10 bucks. Not worth more than that to me.

The run and gun parts of every level seem to take away from the immersion of the game for me. You're a sniper soooo then why are you infiltrating a V2 rocket base filled with close quarter battles with your pistol against nazi soldiers... Also the game is kinda cartoony. I guess getting it for $30 was the right price point..this game is at best a 7/10.

I gotta ask - does this game get any harder than the demo? Even on Elite difficulty, having the mouse pretty much means any decent gamer will just slaughter everything and never die because they are so generous with health.

You play those areas the way you want but that was NOT an ideal way to play that area at all. ;)

In some of the tighter interiors, I whip out the silenced pistol and hit the headshots Agent 47 style. More often than not, though, it's sniper time. I don't think I've even bothered with the machine guns. 98 percent of my offense has been the sniper rifle. I'm loving the Gewehr 43 right now.

Running and gunning is absolutely what this game is NOT about and I would recommend never trying to play it that way even on easier difficulties. You WILL be disappointed trying to play it like that. Don't do it!

Now in that level you're talking about, I was using my sniper rifle the entire time because I'd see those guys way at a distance and pick them off. I'd have had a coronary trying to use a pistol or any CQB tactics in there.

Yes it does. The demo doesn't do the full game justice. It's also nice to get rid of the reverse mouse acceleration bug that the demo has.

The levels open up a lot more and certain situations get more complicated. The enemy AI gets a very modest boost but not earth shattering by any means.

If you "get" the gameplay down, you're going to perform well.

the AI Snipers cheat.

Yes they do. People are half joking about "aimbots" for the AI Snipers and there might be some truth to that.

I also found the game way too easy on Elite...first review is in...

http://www.gamespot.com/sniper-elite-v2/platform/pc/

LOL, Call of Madden 20 will get 8 and 9/10's sight unseen from these major outlets. Screw them.

Your best bet past the demo is to hit youttube and check out HD footage.

A lot of it is going to be console but there's more PC footage showing up now.

The devs have made a point of insisting that the PC version is not a port and I think they're correct. None of the consolitis red flags have shown up.

What I've scoured out there on feedback suggests that the PC version clearly is the one to get if given the choice.

For whatever reason, the Xbox version is actually getting slagged on the most. I don't know if there's anything to that or not.

I can tell everyone this: If you're someone who prefers Call of Duty type games, you can forget this game. Skip it and move on. I know that's what I'm seeing with some of those negative reviews and feedback. No question about it.

It's a dead giveaway when you see a game where it's either love or hate with little middle ground. I had no doubt in my mind the major outlets were going to slag it with almost no exception and that's to be expected for a number of reasons that I don't think I need to preach here by now. It was predictable a mile away.

If you liked the demo of this game...and there's no excuse, everyone should try it if they're even remotely interested....chances are you'll like if not outright love the full game. If you hate the demo, move on. No harm, no foul. :)

The devs deserve credit for putting a demo out before the game was released. That should be industry standard anyways.

There's a few rough edges on this game. No question about it.

I have to give these devs credit for some thoughtful additions to the PC version in terms of the menu choices people like to see, good KBM implementation, and downright stellar communication back and forth on Steam forums and the rest of it.

There was an issue with the preorder weapons the day the game came out and they got together with Valve and it was fixed with a handful of hours.

So they are showing some serious effort and are very responsive which sadly, seems to the exception rather than the norm in this industry.

So maybe this isn't a game to buy now for some of you but I'd say if you like the demo and you're not sure, wait it out and see what happens with patches and support. :)

For some reason, this game just "took" for me and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I felt like these guys deserved my support anyways but that was my call and YMMV of course.

I like the future prospects for this game.

the AI Snipers cheat.

explain how... like do they see through walls/around corners or just super accurate? it's not "cheating" unless we're dealing with resources or some other kind of stats/vision, then it's just poor balance.

I say "cheating" tongue and cheek. Other people don't.

Some people think the AI Snipers are really accurate as in uncannily so.

I don't. I think they're supposed to be awfully damned good just like the player character is.

I've liked what I've seen myself in that regard. They're supposed to be awesome snipers like you are. It's supposed to come down to who gets that first, best shot off before the other. Sometimes they kill me first and most of the time I get them but it's down to timing and accuracy for sure.

you can be behind cover and they dont know where you are and the second you hit mouse 2 to expose your self from cover you have 1 bullet in your chest.

if they were to give the player and the AI the same damage model the player would lose 90% of the time in a 1 on 1 with the AI snipers in sniper elite mode.

the only thing that saves us from thier super reflexes is we can take 2 hits vs them taking 1.

Not completely out of the question for elite bad ass snipers especially if they see your scope reflect light the same way the player sees theirs.

Interesting. I'll have to experiment more deliberately with this.

Well they are superaccurate at the elite difficulty but they don't one shot kill you so I don't see what the problem is.

Have you ever played Rogue Spear/Raven Shield on the Elite difficulty levels. The tangos could kill you without looking in your direction or pointing their guns at you. THAT was pretty tough.

Me, either. The enemy snipers are probably the best enemy AI in the game IMO. I'm real happy with what I've seen there. It makes sense since enemy snipers are supposed to be peers of the character you're playing.

I'm getting closer to the end of the main SP campaign. I'm up to 11 hours btw. I could see hitting around 12-15 hours on the SP campaign by the time I'm finished.

Even at that, I've sucked horribly at finding the bottles to shoot and not real great on collecting gold, either.

All told: I love this damned game. A pleasant surprise for me.

Brutal. Weeping and gnashing of teeth worthy.

Because of that picture or did you at least try the demo for yourself?

With my backlog of games and D3 coming out I can wait for this to come down plus from initial impressions and some gameplay videos its not worth full price for me.

Try the demo sometime. You might like it. :)

Just installed this and liked it. Howver, I'm not very keen on the game's mechanics when moving from area to area-- it feels too way too consolized. But, the headshots never get old so I'm play it some more. :D

i played the crap out of the first game, liked it very much. this is also good but jesus, the randomly spawning enemies are starting to piss me off. i calmly scan all the buildings before moving on, when suddenly: BAM, i get hit in the chest, and before i manage to get behind cover i am dead. combined with the looooong checkpoint intervals this can get quite frustrating. but all in all, it's not too bad. x-ray vision never gets old.

i liked the demo but the elite difficulty still doesn't seem realistic.

But, I honestly had a lot more fun using the custom difficulty and just making it easier and trying to do crazy shots.

Pretty nice patch just came out, at least for the PC version.

These devs have shown me nothing but good communications and support thus far.

Hi Guys,

Just had word from Steam the latest update is now live. This comes with the below fixes for PC, and two new multiplayer maps.

To check your version number, its bottom right of Options screen - should read 1.03.

Enjoy!
Steve

SEv2 Update 1.03: 11th May 2012

- Fixed failure to progress beyond the lobby in peer games after playing a dedicated server game.
- Player names in lobby chat are no longer coloured according to the player's current team.
- Player HUD now hidden on death.
- Dedicated server - max players can now be set before adding any maps to the rotation.
- Kill notifications should no longer occasionally show the wrong victim or killer.
- Wind now correctly disabled when set to None in the server settings.
- A new best shot score or best shot distance in an individual session will no longer overwrite the best for all sessions (unless it is the best overall).
- When dead in multiplayer, input in the game menu will no longer be used to respawn the player.
- Multiplayer server list now populates while searching, instead of only when the search completes.
- Multiplayer game time now only starts when the warmup time has elapsed.
- Fixed player getting stuck in the carrying pose if a body is dropped while falling.
- Fixed corruption of player stats after multiple leaderboard updates.
- Attempting to join a passworded server through the Steam overlay or friend invites will now bring up the password entry box.
- Player connection and disconnection notices now shown in the chatbox.
- Various optimisations for people experiencing lower framerates in the full game than in the demo.
- Distance King kill notifications now show the correct score for the game mode instead of the single player score.
- Fire in the Church map will no longer cause instant death on one-hit-kill servers.
- Improved performance/FPS across "Church" multiplayer map.
- Added "-60Hz" command line option to force a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, for users who find the game always boots into an unsupported resolution in fullscreen mode.
- All unlocked levels are now available in the co-op lobby screen, to resolve progression blocker after Flak Tower.

If you encounter problems, please contact us on: [email protected]

5h into the Sp and Im still loving it. Dont care for the story or some levels, but its always satisfying to shatter someones testicles!

Multiplayer is INTENSE! They need to fine tune the spawning a little bit and add amenities like being able to switch teams in game and auto balance teams but overall: You're in for an intense, nail biting treat if you get into a server with several people playing at the same time. I prefer team deathmatch but it's all fun.

Just beat the SP, and it is a blast. While short, all the different routes you can take means that I'm going to get a lot of replay value out of it. Hope it does well enough to earn a sequel.

So.. multi player... how is it?

Awesome. That last patch helped it out.

It's intense. High tension. There's already some really good players on there.

There's a few more areas it needs help in:

1.) Spawning.

2.) Some more amenities like being able to switch teams in game and auto balance and stuff like that.

This is a game that I can easily see having a tight loyal following of sorts. It looks like it's slowly starting to grow, too.

doh, should of grabbed it when it was on sale, well another one to add to the list for when it goes on sale, i am so bored with the games i got.

The more I play MP...despite sucking...the more addictive it becomes. Damn, I love this game.

Dark Horse of the Year thus far easily.

I tried the demo a week or two ago and thought it was AMAZING! Had to get the full version. I'm only on the third or fourth mission but I really love it.

Want weeping and gnashing of teeth?

Go on a Hardcore server. They turn off EVERYTHING that could possibly be of remote assistance.

One shot kills are on. High ass wind. No light reflecting off scopes. No spotting with binocs. Friendly fire is on. No pistols. No secondary weapon. No gadgets, explosives or anything else.

Utterly brutal.

That sounds super intense. I love sniping. Your post has got me really really interested in the game. Sadly I have to wait a week or 2 to get my comp uP and running.

hardcore servers are soo frustrating,
not recommended if you get easily frustrated.
But when you finally get some kills.. so satisfying..

reading the MP posts makes me think of Red Orchestra and playing on the sniper only servers.

I beg forgiveness if this is is "site whoring" or "self promotion" and if it is then my apologies. It will not be a frequent occurrence by any means. If the mods don't like it then by all means delete it with no hard feelings. :)

http://vortexeffect.net/2012/05/15/sniper-elite-v2-review/

I wrote this review for the PC version of the game. I figured I'd put this here because it really covers all the bases of how I feel about this game and what I've seen with it and because the editor of the site has just informed me that Rebellion saw this review and is tweeting it out there anyways so there ya have it. Because they're doing that...and ONLY because they're doing that...did I feel alright about posting this here like this.

Saves me tons of typing, copying and pasting, if nothing else. ;)

I came away reading that review as a game that's not very good/polished except for the sniping only... also, leaving deathmatch out of the console versions is kind of stupid of them. I was actually going to pick this game up until I read your review. :)

I came away reading that review as a game that's not very good/polished except for the sniping only...

Then you either read wrong or I did a poor job communicating. Granted it's a long review so I can't feel too bad about it. ;)

The MOST polish is clearly with sniping situations. No question about it. Every review and piece of feedback that's out there echoes that.

The overall game is very good. What did you think 4/5 stars meant? ;) If the game were poop except sniping I can assure you my score and review would have been LOL for harshness and 3/5 would have been generous. Anyone that's followed my posting history around here long enough knows I'm not very tolerant for mediocrity or BS. ;)

I'm guessing based on the feedback I've scoured that if I brought the console versions of this game in here right now I'd be giving it 3/5 stars. For some reason, the 360 version especially is getting slagged even worse than the PS3 version. Not sure what that's about.

also, leaving deathmatch out of the console versions is kind of stupid of them.

Kind of? No. It IS stupid and unfortunate because of this reason:
I was actually going to pick this game up until I read your review. :)

I don't blame you. MP adds a lot of play value and unless they patch it in there pretty damned soon this really doesn't bode well for the sales of the console versions at all.

If I weren't a PC gamer and all I had was a console I'd be pretty disappointed myself. The MP really lets all the best elements of this game come out and come together. The SP and the co-op are certainly very solid overall, though.

No question the PC version is the one to get if that choice exists and is viable for a potential buyer. It's the most polished and well rounded and I think it all comes back to the fact that Rebellion handled the whole game themselves on the PC and kicked it off to 505 studios to publish it on the consoles.

Try the demo first!

So I got this game, really liking it so far as it's a good change of pace to the usual run and gun shooter. My only gripes:

- Save system. I just got pretty far into a level and got an auto-checkpoint right before dying, so now I'm stuck in a loop and have to restart the level. Weak / frustrating to say the least. I'm all for a checkpoint system as opposed to the rapid-press F5 to save system. But at least give me a chance to roll back one checkpoint just in the off chance you get looped.

- Grenade mechanics. This guy throws it in a lob fashion every time, so it usually hits the perimeter of a window or some overhang and lands in your lap. Not very polished on this front.

- Enemy AI. Can be good at times or just downright insensible at times. I've had them flank and attack me from two directions. Other times, they don't seem to notice the dead body right next to them.

Levels are open, but not completely. I think a little bit more sandbox style (less locked doors) would make for a very fun experience on at least a few levels. Give me a target, tell me his general vicinity, load the map with patrols and let me find my unique/creative way. Do I want to kill every single soul? Or do I want to stealth there and take one bullet to get the job done. Hopefully future titles in this series will take that into account (maybe add splintercell/hitman-esque mini-puzzles, like lock picking?).

I do like how you can use noise to disguise your shots (like PA systems / etc).

Totally agreed.

What difficulty are you playing at?

You're saying the same thing I've thought:

You basically want Hitman: The Sniper Elite Splinter Cell game. So do I! :D

There's aspects here that almost flirt with it. You can almost see it.

Maybe for part 3, which is being planned, they'll take up some of these ideas.

I have to give Rebellion credit. If you go on the Steam forums right now or their forums or anywhere they are, they'll talk to you and they're just fielding tons of feedback.

They may even surprise us here with Sniper Elite V2 in terms of what they can patch and add.

I do like how you can use noise to disguise your shots (like PA systems / etc).

This is a little detail that really should be in a lot of other shooter type games. Throw that rock in a certain direction, it clacks on the ground, and it distracts. Nice touch!
