I am currently working on a SFF build and can't decide if i need a 450 watt or 300 watt PSU.
I have basically decided on the sg05.

I ran the numbers and got this:

i5-3450: 77w
HD7770: 80w
DVD drive: 20w?
Z77E-ITX: 10w?
7200RPM HDD: 7watt?
x2 4GB DDR1600 sticks: 24w?
Cpu fan + case fan: 4w?

Total = 212w

Now that number is under 300, but how much head room do I need? I'm sure this depends on the quality of the PSU, so how would the 300watt silverstone PSU hold up here?

Thanks

It would be fine, but for $10 more, you might as well get the 450 to future-proof yourself. These PSUs have been known to work at wattages above their rating and are really solid. If you really need to save money, then yes, you'd do fine with the 300w.

Amzee is right. If you are concerned about the 300w not being enough just get the 450w model. Problem solved.

it is a $20 difference. You are right though. The $20 would avoid future issues with video card upgrades. 450 watts it is.

You'll be fine. FSP manufactures the power supplies in those cases. I've used that same model to power an overclocked i7-860 and an HD5770 without any problems.

I may go with an HD6870 now which is about twice the power as the 7770, so for that reason I will probably go with the bigger supply
