AMD has just released AMD Catalyst 12.4 drivers for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux platforms. Grab them if you need them! Here are a few of the featured highlights:

Windows XP support for the AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

  • In addition to Windows 7 and Windows Vista support, Catalyst 12.4 now also introduces Windows XP (64-bit/32-bit) support for the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing: Level of Detail (LOD) Image Quality enhancements:

  • Supported on the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
  • LOD Image quality enhancements for Super Sample Anti-Aliasing and Adaptive Anti-Aliasing through the AMD Catalyst™ Control Center for DirectX® 10 and DirectX® 11 applications.
  • Applications must support in game Anti-Aliasing for the feature to work (Forced on Anti-Aliasing through the Catalyst Control Center is not supported for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 applications)

Morphological Anti-Aliasing (MLAA): Significant performance enhancements:

  • Supported on the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series, AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series, and AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series
  • MLAA now operates up to 80% faster than previous versions

Texture filtering quality improvements:

  • Supported on the AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
  • Improvements have been made to the texture filtering algorithm (for both DirectX9 and DirectX10/DirectX11 applications) to increase the quality of rendered textures, with no impact to performance

Goodie Goodie!!! I have to try this out tonight. I haven't played with MLAA in a while.

Most importantly!!!

Tearing is no longer observed on the third screen in 3x1 and 1x3 Eyefinity configurations.

*cough* repost *cough* ;)

Anyone know if a updated CAP is coming out anytime soon?

Maybe I'm an idiot, but when I go the Download page for HD7xxx, only the 12.3 drivers show up...

Anyone else having trouble with setting up Eyefinity on these?

I just installed them and I can no longer create and arrange an eyefinity group.
I create the group, and that comes back, then I go to arrange the group and it pukes.

I get the following:

12.4 only shows up on the Update page of Catalyst, not on the website for me and my 6970 and 64-bit W7.

Say, do you guys use the CAPs with a single GPU setup? I thought that those were ONLY for 2 or more GPU setups (ie: Crossfire), but the release notes suggest that the CAPS are being used with single GPU setups too.

My gpu 1 idle speed is still fucked up.... this is getting old.

Wouldnt be a big deal but it makes my gpu 1 run so damn hot. Here I come 12.2.

12.4 beta caused my dgpu to be permanently downclocked to 2d clock speeds.
12.3 whql caused my dgpu to be perm upclocked to 3d clocks.

I emailed the catalyst team about it. i hope they fixed it. Otherwise they suck for breaking things with every release.

I too emailed them about this. Looks like they didnt get the memo. Maybe 12.5 will be better. But who knows.

Sounds specific to your setup guys cause I no longer have that issue, but can confirm I did with 12.3, 12.4 WHQL fixed the problem for me.

CAPS are still 12.3 at website.
These must have their own in video driver, was able to configure caps in CCC with the new ones.

I had to uninstall all references of AMD drivers through safe mode, reboot, uninstall my video card through device manager, reboot, then install 12.4s. Suddenly everything works.

At least AMD consistently dicks up their drivers.

I have actually gotten in the habit of doing this with every driver install when I use crossfire. It's less stress overall to just get it over with right away. That and if I didn't, I often ran into the issue of not being able to enable crossfire at all.

That said, I just split up my 6950's in anticipation of the 7970 I have incoming, and was able to upgrade from 12.3 to 12.4 with no issues on my main computer. On my spare computer, I swapped out a GTS 450 for a 6950 and went from the Nvidia drivers, to 12.3, then 12.4, with no more than a regular uninstall. Single cards are looking to be much more relaxing.

Perhaps part of AMD's problem is the uninstaller just isn't thorough enough?

Does not fix tearing on 3rd display in 3x1 eyefinity portrait setup....No idea why they would make this claim. Massive tearing on 3rd display still exists in 2d and 3d , Fl0p

Unless they pull off some seriously low-level wizardry, I don't see them ever fixing that particular issue with current hardware.

The hardware that generates the sync signals for the DVI ports operates out of phase with the sync signal for DisplayPort, this will result in a consistent fixed or crawling tear on the out-of-sync display.

I'd love for them to figure out a way around that...but I really think it'll need new hardware...

ask the people that made rage, lol.

I haven't had any problems with Rage and AMD drivers for a few months now. Just been playing it on my laptop with 12.3 and it runs very smooth on an APU. Too bad no crossfire for the 2nd GPU.

i agree that's why i was so surprised to see it listed as being fixed in the notes...

If you use 1x DVI and 2 displayport you will get tearing. This shouldn't be surprising. You have to use the same monitor type (ie, DP) and use a specific eyefinity approved adapter.

You have to use specific eyefinity approved adapters to avoid tearing. Thats what others are saying, anyway, you can't just plug in any 3 and hope for the best. AMD has a list of approved adapters on their website, use anything else at your own tearing peril.

They are used for single GPUs too. Basically the same as on NVIDIA. Just that they are *needed* for crossfire.

So far so good with 12.4, but then again I'm running a single graphics card, and AMD drivers have always worked in that configuration.

I suppose one fix is to use DP for all three screens then...

same here but not thru safe mode...

and skyrim still hangs on single gpu and eyefinity preset isnt saved and crossfire isnt saved. i load windows need to set crossfire on and set eyefinity every time... so far

well done. can i get an RMA based on drivers?

Wish! I bet if we could AMD would be fixing those driver issues in a week flat as the majority of the people that bought 2+ cards would be sending them back for full refund.

damn straight. ive only had 1 paperweight for the last 2 months but you have 2... must suck. maybe they should compensate us for the $$$ that we would have earned in interest in 2 months. oh wait its not fixed so at least 3 months... never again

I get the following:

eyefinity seems fine.

had an odd glitch where after a while (couple of hours of inattention?) the screens refused to come back from black with a mouse movement or keypress..........

Did AMD lock the clocks for 7850 owners? Read this on reddit, can someone confirm this?
