If you are a SimCity fanatic, you are going to get your fix sometime in 2013 with SimCity 5. The next installment is reported to have much greater attention to detail, simplified manipulation from toolbar to cityscape and better player interaction. Click on The Game Jar link for a really in-depth game critique.

I'm excited about this game, but I'm gonna bet my ass that it's not going to be anything like the video thats been posted. That's just a pre-rendered CGI sequence.

I really hope that it's not an online only game.

Technical difficulties this morning, Cliff is working on the links, so I'm leaving the broken link in for the time being.

It isn't, but it has the new dumb DRM scheme of "you must be connected to the internet" to start playing.

Maybe eventually someone high up will accidentally trip, face plant on concrete, and then come to the realization that they are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on DRM schemes that are broken on release day.

True, but then again I wait a month or so after the game comes out before buying so that a decent crack comes out that disables the DRM. Its so sad that legitimate consumers have to resort to using pirated cracks to play the game they bought

I was like  until I saw "Images not representative of actual gameplay" 'doh!

I guess I'll have to wait and see how it actually ends up looking like, and if it uses DX11, here's hoping.

yup, Diablo 3 is a no-go for me simply because I don't feel like being dumped from my game when my router occasionally resets.

Will buy when it hits $5 on Steam, that's about all a reskinned SimCity 4 is worth to me.

SimCity isn't as great as it used to be. They should make a new version of Sim Tower. :D

first time i've seen this.

looks good.

I didn't play sim city 4. Been more of a cities XL kinda guy as of late.

If you click on the link to the story, and then a link to the actual reviewer within that story you can see what looks to be a couple game play pictures

But I don't know, something about them seems ... off like too cartoony

Not gameplay, just concept art. This is what it currently looks like (graphics aren't final according to Maxis).

Ah, explains why it looked off to me.

As to the video... man that looks processor hungry, hope they optimize it for quad-core CPUs, I seem to recall other SimCity games had "late game syndrome" where they ground to a halt... mind you just from what I read as I never have the patience to get that far.

I really hope they make it look a bit more realistic. It just looks too "cartoonish" at the moment (imo) and just reminds me of Societies.

Why don't you go get a reliable router, then?
Because I like the price point of my gigabit N-band router with 3 antennas and doesn't scorch the desk where it's sitting.

Because the router dropping is a relatively minor annoyance, and occurs some what rarely (couple times per week maybe) and then within 15-30 seconds the thing reboots.

Because I shouldn't have to FUCKING STAY CONNECTED TO THE GOD DAMN INTERNET TO PLAY A MOTHER FUCKING GAME THAT I'M PLAYING IN SINGLE PLAYER THAT'S WHY BITCH! *winky smiley face of absolution*

Look I get it, Blizzard or their sugar daddy money makers, are greedy mother fuckers. The want to have an auction where people can sell fake online shit for real world money and get a piece of all of that money and they know that can't work if it's easy to cheat.

I totally get they're super fucking greedy and think that they should get some royalties whenever some Asian country has a mega-marathon gaming session for one of their games, so that's why you need to ditch the LAN.

And I totally get that they're super greed bastards that requires that everyone have really stable internet connections just to continue playing a game in single player because it's technically not "single player" even though yeah it really fucking is single player you're just playing on their own server they just won't let you play on your own server. Why other games might require that you have a CPU that's so fast, or a video card that can crunch so many polygons, Blizzard goes the extra mile and to only want people with stable connections that NEVER drop. And this is a requirement for all the above things to continue to work, there is no longer a piracy argument, this is a greed argument, and that's it.

Why Blizzard doesn't simply charge a monthly fee for D3 I don't know.

Ok whoops, realized this isn't the D3 thread, ignore a lot of that with regards to SC5 :D
