Kindle or other E-Reader

I bought a Kindle Wi-fi about 2 years ago, Thing is great and the whole family uses it constantly. Whoever said those black/white e-readers don't survive past a year, obviously hasn't seen or used one. I highly doubt there few e-readers around that have seen as much use as mine has and it still works perfectly. It holds a shitload of books and if you keep the WiFi turned off the battery last forever. I'm a cheap ass so I download books from demonoid for free. Kindle supports more formats then most other e-readers and has a shitload a space as well. I'll probably get a few Fire this year some time.

Using a Kidle 4 Wi-Fi with ads; Very pleased, it was cheap and I figured there was no point in paying more for useless touch features.

now does anyone own the new kindle touch? it's about 40 grams heavier than the normal kindle with button controls, but has twice the memory and the battery life, plus you can zoom more comfortably on a touch screen, so i think it's the better choice.

does it support pinch & zoom?

I read so much more than I used to now. It's a fantastic little device. I'm not sure if the touch feature is worth it, but I'm wary of the cheap physical buttons they put on a lot of these devices now. I've had enough phones and remotes where buttons wear out quickly to make it a habit to avoid little buttons.

I tend to read books only at night and in low light conditions, so e-ink doesn't have much of an advantage for me. Also, I prefer an e-reader that allows me to change to a dark background with light text and I don't believe any of the current e-ink devices allow this on stock firmware. If you read frequently in daylight then by all means grab an e-ink device. If not grab something else or make sure you order an archaic book light to go along with it.

Same here. I have a unlit reader and I would actually prefer backlit LCD. I get zero eyestrain from backlit LCD.

I just picked up a Kindle 4 reader. It's a fantastic little, slim, light device and is perfect for someone who wants a reader and nothing else.

Comming from a kindle 2 I wish the touch had the page buttons on the sides. Really that is my biggest problem with it. Still a great device.

I ended up picking the Kindle Keyboard over the touch, so far so good. Loving it.
