Heroes VI - $24.99 @ Gamefly

Ubisoft... Don't they have ridiculous DRM or something? And what are the Heroes games like in terms of gameplay?

I've never really had a conversation about Heroes with someone who hasn't played a Heroes game. I guess the closest thing I can think of would be like Shogun or Civ in some ways. Basically you build up an army and go around giant maps fighting NPC's and gathering troops and items and etc etc etc, and the battles themselves are turned based and take some tactical thinking. It's a game that can take LOTS of hours of time. Great time sink for a video game. Fun multiplayer too. I didn't catch if the Gamefly title was Steam activated, but I have my copy via Steam. This just looked to be a good deal as I haven't seen it on sale since it came out. You definitely get your moneys worth in this kind of game, dollars vs hour played.

i was reading the various forums about this game, since i liked HoMM3, and yeah this is another incomplete game

if you're just content with playing the single player campaigns then you'll enjoy it, but if you're into custom maps or multi player you're going to have to wait a 6 months or so before they cater to your needs

I am a Heroes fan, although not a fanatic or anything. I personally really liked this one, although it is not nearly as deep as Heroes3 or 5. Graphics are generally ok, but some of the character models are bad, also it is very buggy, and Ubi's DRM sucks as usual. I hate Ubisoft so bad now because of this. Still overall pretty happy with this game.

Ya, I've had to pass on this one because of the DRM. It's sad too, Ubisoft has had a number of recent titles I've been interested in (Settlers 7, Assassin's Creed 2, Anno 2070, HOMM 6, to name a few) but I just can't do the bullshit DRM. HOMM 6 is a "Ubisoft Online Service Platform" which translates to "You have to be online at all times and if you connection ever drops, even for a second the game stops."

Sorry, can't do it. Part of the reason I have single player games is to play when I'm in a place with limited or no Internet (like traveling) and for when my net connection breaks.

So my advice is as ever to pass on this. The only way publishers will stop shit like this is if people refuse to buy it. There are ever so many good games out there these days (my Steam backlog is huge) passing on one isn't too big a deal.

Ah, yes, that's right. DRM is the reason I passed in Settlers 7, too.

Online DRM isnt going anywhere. More titles are using it. And the fact that you use Steam is hilarious... its an Online DRM too. Offline mode is beyond broken. Also Diablo 3 has Constant internet DRM too. No way in hell that will be boycotted and not bought by people who want the game. Internet and cloud gaming is the future.. better get on board or don't bother gaming at all.

I have never, repeat, never had a problem with offline mode games on steam except when they have their own DRM aswell (ie Bioshock 2, ME2). Steamworks is perfectly fine without an internet connection.

I don't demand no DRM. I demand the ability to play offline if the game isn't an online game. Thus Steam is ok for me. I prefer Impulse, and buy games there when I can, but Steam is ok. Given that this is not a hard demand to meet, I have no problems. I have, literally, hundreds of games I can play right now.

So no, I don't think I will get with Ubisoft's shit and I'll encourage others to not as well.

Ubisoft took down their DRM Servers for 2-3 weeks making a number of games unplayable in any form. Any argument for their DRM is rendered null due to that.
