HDD side mount slide in mod

Many cases nowadays has side mount HDD rack, with easy slide in tray.

However, that means to plug the cable in, we need to open the right case panel, of we have to fiddle our fingers in the tiny holes of the back of the HDD cage.

I am looking for a solution, preferable DIY for my HDD cage that allows me to side the HDD in and it fit connects to the sata and power cable to the back. Kinda like the thermaltake Level 10 GT solution, but inside the case.

Any thought is appreciated.

I don't know if I am making myself clear enough.

yeah youre looking for something like a hot swap drive bay. i think ive only seen them as bays that you put in the front of your case (5.25" bays) and plug your power and sata cables into the back of and then you can just slide your hdds right in. you may be able to buy one and mod/adapt it to fit inside your case though. like these.

alternatively, you could do some modding and use one of these. little bit pricey for what it is (just a pcb wiring 6 sata ports and 2 molex to 6 hotswap ports) but its basically what youre looking for.

Thanks for the comment.

Yes, the idea is like hot swap bay, minus the hot swap. It is more of a convenience standpoint to install/remove HDD without removing the right panel because the computer would be off at that time.

I am surprise no one had done that mod to a side-mounted hdd cage.

I am thinking of using a daisy chained power plug, with a number of sata data cable, mounted on a aluminum frame to provide back support. This requires accurate measurement.

Any comment?

I'd just use a lockable hot-swap bay + tray set, but side-mounted. It makes sense, would look pretty nice, and is basically what you said you're looking to do with it (being that you can lock it, which helps to allow it to be permanent/temporary).
