Warner Bros. to Adapt Bleach to Big Screen

Anime/Manga to Live Action makes me think of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Yeah, no.

Marvel however has managed to come out with some decent action comics to live action lately. Watchmen, some of the X-men, the last two Batman, Iron Man - to name a few.

I can kind of see what you're saying but Ishida like Kuwabara??? Really? I cant think of 2 characters that are more opposite from each other.

I'm saying more in type. Ishada is far more intelligent and better developed, but his relationship with Ichigo is very reminiscent of Kuwabara and Yusuke.

Watchmen and Batman are DC.

I should have included them. I meant Action Comic to Live Action in general. We can usually pull those off, but we can't do anime if our lives depend on it.

Well it's simply because comics are western and they conform to western storytelling mechanics. Japanese storytelling is different, it is not easily compatible with the way western stories or movies work.

You mean actually telling a story (anime) vs episodic randomness (cartoons)?

Christ, they chose the worst anime ever. Over 9,000 episodes of fillers and people STILL watch and buy this crap.

Batman: The Animated Series still stands to this day as one of the best cartoons ever created. The writing was and still is fantastic and the animation style was amazing.

It's one of the few shows I can watch from my childhood without having to put on Nostalgia goggles. It's just THAT good.

I liked the '90s but I have to say I like modern anime, there's many options for what you feel like.

As for modern manga->anime there've been a few great.
-Full Metal Alchemist -- first series, Brotherhood was the manga but the first's darker tone was awesome
-Twelve Kingdoms -- I do prefer the novel's version but the anime was still great!
-Fairy Tale -- I wanted something light-hearted and this is it. I need to read the manga now but from my understanding the anime followed the manga to the T -- and very few filler episodes and even the fillers are fun
-Inu-Yasha -- This was the transitional period between the '90s and modern. This series (manga and anime) suffered from the sendrom where the main character(s) find some new power/tool to defeat a powerful enemy

I know what you are talking about but dear god Fair Tale is a HORRIBLE anime. The first 20 something episodes is just like sailor moon/pokemon where when ever they do something its the same, long, cut scene and you only get really 5 seconds of fighting. I know the pokemon rippoff esque stuff stopped but I see the animation is still very sub par.

I love Inu-Yasha and FMA. I'm just sad that Inu-Yasha never ahd a finale.

Fairy Tale seems more focused on the comedy than the fighting. The animation is fairly a-typical for a long running series. Not good, not bad, just there.

Inuyasha did get a finale. They had a second series, but really even the manga feels like it has tons of filler. The ending isn't bad, but getting there can be a chore.

I read an article that bleach is going to be cancelled when the current story arch ends on March 27th 2012. Maybe American companies are buying he rights tot he mvies but the anime is dead and the last manga story arch will not make it to the anime.:(

Actually Inuyashsa the final chapeter and all of the other 167 inuyasha episodes are on hulu. I don't know if I should buy a Roku 2 or a net top PC. Every streaming network device does netflix, few do hulu or crunchy role.

Elfen Lied?
High School of the Dead! :p

Actually, I wasn't basing it on the amount of naughty bits on screen, though that does come into play, but rather the actual subject matter in the story.

A LOT of drama, late teen/adult situations like murder, suicide, natural/illness death, family issues (often death, illness, cheating, divorce), "accidental parents", mental issues, war (sometimes very graphic), and a lot of other stuff that will go over the head of most young children, or they really shouldn't be exposed to at an early age. The "slice of life" genre has a lot of varied "real life" kinds of things in them that are geared toward late teens, adults.

The thing is that, unlike typically episodic cartoons, anime stories typically run 13- 52 episodes, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter, but they have the time to be written so that they really draw you in so far that their world can seem as real as the world around us, and you start to feel for, and relate to the characters. Are all anime like this, no, but I've found that a lot are. Adding to this is the fact that many children have trouble seperating fact from fiction.

I'm a middle aged man, and there are some anime that make me cry like a baby.

I believe that what we watch has an influence on us...video games, not so much. Few if any video game plots, mechanics are close enough to real life that you start relating to them.

Infinite Ryvius. Quick walk through the different forms of government (Totalitarian to Authoritarian). There were several distinct phases where they were aristocratic, communism, democratic and tyrannic. And it was interesting watching the social dynamics change drastically as the cadets learned about politics.

Dunno, to me it's just another 'villain-of-the-week' pattern with no continuity. Altho to be honest, it's one of the better cartoons out there.

I know what you mean about the beginning of Fairy Tale but I have to say it does get much better after the first 2 seasons.

As for Inu-Yasha they did finally do a last season when the manga came to a close. I won't spoil it though I will say it is well worth watching.
