Borderlands 2 trailer

I'll go so far as to say there is no way you completed every mission in the game in four hours. I easily have 10-15 into the game and I skipped over several side quests. Virtually any RPG is going to be short if you skip the side quests. It took me four-ish hours to finish BF:BC2, and about 6-8 to finish BF3, and I KNOW Borderlands has more material than that.
.

He isn't saying he completed every mission in 4 hours...just that the main mission itself is only 4 hours.

Seriously who actually just played the main story line? I hope you aren't implying that you ignored the hundreds of side-quests and vast areas to explore...

no i did all of them, i completed every mission available in the game.. but what the heck is the point in having a main story at all if its only going to be 4 hours...

Clarification plox?

Benefit of the doubt, but I think you're wrong. Why complain about 4 hours of story material when you've just gotten several more of side-quests? As stated, any RPG is going to be short if you rush through it.

I have about 45-50 hours into ME2. I probably could cut that into less than half if I wanted to avoid side missions and avoid looking for everything.

It's the same thing with Skyrim (as someone joked earlier). Yes there are plenty of side quests, many of which are great. But when the central plot line is supposedly some huge, earth shattering event, it seems odd when it isn't much longer than just a few side quests. Particularly when the story for side quests is often very weak compared to the main quest line.

Just hope the quests/leveling is designed is better. If you did all the quests in order, you would always be over leveled.

I got suckered into buying a 4 pack of Borderlands 1. One of my most disappointing purchases ever.

I'm not going to be suckered again unless the reviews come out and show that they actually put some effort into a meaningful storyline this time instead of a giant hollow macguffin.

It´s an arcade RPG shooter, maybe adjusting expectations accordingly would help. Also if you haven´t played it co-op, you haven´t unleashed Borderlands real potential.

Yeah a fun co-op shooter is all it was ever really intended to be. I never got the impression it was supposed to be some immersive story-driven RPG, so I wasn't disappointed.

Precisely.

And FWIW I got plenty of enjoyment out of it even in single player mode.

I can't believe I still see people harping on the ending. Did any of those people move on into the DLCs?

Buying a 4-pack pretty much means I bought it for co-op. Was fun for the first little bit but grew mundane and my friends lost interest as well. Ending was the biggest disappointment.

So I should have to pay more money for an ending that doesn't suck?

DLCs had even less story and were even more random. I really wish Borderlands stuck to it's original concept before they overhauled and retooled it for the more comic book style/parody/comedy style that was less clever than the producers smugly seemed to think it was.

Early 90s coin-operated arcade beat-em ups had more coherent and satisfying stories than Borderlands. They dangle this whole interesting world in front of you (crazy planets and societies that look like they are the survivors of long-distance colony ships that crashed into wastelands planets they weren't meant to land on) and all you do in it is shoot people and you never learn anything about it.

*sighs*

Sure. ;)

No, of course not.

I simply think it's an overblown complaint from some people.

Let's face it: I don't know about you and some others but for me the game wasn't about strong narrative to begin with. At least it wasn't for me.

Hell, can you tell me what the hell the story was in Borderlands? ;) I'm not sure I could tell anyone and make it sound coherent.

I agree with Flair: I'd have loved to have seen the original concept for the game.

It's not the kind of game where it ever really "ends" anyways. You can keep playing and looting into eternity on and offline. It's about gameplay, shooting, and loot with story being barely an afterthought. I knew that going into it. Apparently other people didn't. I really didn't care that much.

^^ Is all that an excuse? No.

Yes, the original ending was a joke. Sadly, I'm all too used to that with a lot of games in recent years. A great game like Deus Ex HR being the most recent prominent example. To me, that was a far more egregious breach vs. Borderlands because that's a game where everyone goes in expecting awesome story and gameplay and, boss fight aside, you get that up until arguably one of the biggest and lamest ending I've ever seen in a videogame, at least in the modern era.

For me, the rest of the Borderlands more than delivered on my expectations so it was more than offset by positives even without the DLC.

For me, some of the DLC made the entire game better and the ending of the robot one as a bonus did provide a better payoff of sorts.

For me if they had at least included some rare weapons on the original ending it would have been alright, I just think a lot of people were pretty upset because the end boss fight just dropped really common loot. They did a much better job of that w/Crawermax.

If I have one hope for any future DLC for the sequel, it's that they include some fast travel points across the map. I know driving across Knoxx was a PITA.

Obviously I enjoyed the game, I've got over 200 hours logged on it, I just hope they don't shit all over PC Gamers again this time.

Agreed. :)

If you played borderlands, you need to keep in mind they released borderlands 1 as a steamwork game for beta testing borderlands 2 tech.

http://store.steampowered.com/news/6232/

They are going to be making the PC version a lot better this time around utilizing steamworks.

We should see a lot less retardation than we did with Borderlands 1. ESP on the PC.

Id just be happy if I dont have to use a config utility to play it right. Having a stupid low FOV is just silly.

You say that like it's something bad.

Yeah, FOV pissed me off. Having to bind a hacked console command through a script to my "W" key so that whenever I went forward it updated the FOV was lame!

Would you play Mass Effect if the whole game was just the shooting sequences? No story, no plot, no nothing?

Definitely not - sorry if the humor in my reply went missing.

I generally look for deeper gameplay and avoid the simple shallow shooters. I can't say why I liked Borderlands so much but I really did. The nonstop weapon upgrades, running over monsters in the car, the soundtrack; it was a simple juvenile blast and I couldn't get enough. I think it was partly that the game never took itself seriously, it was irreverent and funny. They totally nailed it for me, and I am skeptical that the sequel will have the same magic. But I can hope :)

It'll be really cool if that happens. I've heard the "The PC version will be the best version" line before though and we ended up with Crysis 2. Short of a really good deal or some information from a trusted source, this won't be on my pre-purchase list.

The loot was the biggest disappointment to me. They have this epic sprawling list of potential stats and you generally get crap. And in the end it rarely felt like what you chose in loot effected your build.

They seemed to try to play it off as a "THIS IS COOL EXCELLENT AKSHUN GAME FOR U, HERE ENJOY EXPLOSION FOR YOU YES?"

I can see where that frustration would come from but for me that was part of the draw: Swim through a bunch of loot and find that one special weapon. Always on the hunt.

That's where co-op was nice, too, because I'd meet people that might have some awesome stuff and do a trade or even show me some charity. Damn, I got some great stuff that way.

Talking about the game makes me want to fire it up again. Part 2 can't come here fast enough.

This game reminded me of Diablo 2, I'm sure D2 fans are going to flame me for that, with the co-op. It was fun to just run and gun and not get too caught up in things. I mean I enjoy a good story. Most of my favorite games are such because of the story. Borderlands was such a great change of pace from that for me.

I don't think round 2 will be nearly as entertaining as the first, but I'm sure it will be a fun game to spend a few weeks running through with some friends beers and strippers.

The Mass Effect series is a story driven RPG shooter.. and it´s a third person shooter. Very casual in that aspect an fairly involved in terms of plot, dialogue and characters. It´s a cinematic experience.

Borderlands is a gun centric game and a first person shooter, which is smart if you want to appeal to people really into shooter games. On top of that Gearbox created a fairly unique and humorous universe with a ton of cared for content. Borderlands is a frantic gun festival in which you happen to come across some extremely one dimensional but memorable characters set in a mad and hilarious world. It´s fragmented and never meant as a cinematic experience.

They went and released a patch for Borderlands 1 to test stuff for Borderlands 2 to try and make sure PC is better.

I am hoping that they take their research to heart and we can see it happen.

i think the loot was fine, problem is a lot of people didn't/don't realize the loot scales based on level. playthrough number, and how many people are playing with you and their level. so you could be level and have a level 70 in your game and get level 50-60 items and some of them are pretty bad ass. though i will admit i used the editor a couple times and screwed around and made my own weapons. though i used realistic numbers on them except for my insanely OP instant kill shotgun which i used to kill the non important people/skags/other annoying crap in the game and used the regular in game weapons against bosses.

After the game got a bit boring it was fun to screw around and add the extra (homemade) maps such as Oasis and go looting/fighting hard creatures. Modding was also pretty enjoyable. Of course I understand if your playing a normal game and someone has a modded gun and shoots everything with 1 shot it is lame, but if you're playing coop with friends it's fun to screw around.
