where can i find these drives? I no longer see them on newegg as active. i am running 8 in my home server in raid 5 with areca 1680 card.

i am out of space and need to expand... Frys has them but seems to be way over priced. ( i do understand that drives are up due to the flooding but not as bad as the website suggested price)

I would just get the 7K3000 models instead. I am not sure 7K2000s are still being made. And in either case the price should be a little over $205 US since the price of drives more than doubled (though coming back down slowly) as a result of the Thailand floods.

would there be any issues with me running my hw raid 5 with a mix of 7k2000 and 7k3000? or should all be OK? server has been running rock solid so i just want to be extra sure that things will work and expand with no problems.

I think you should be fine. The 7K3000s are a little faster than the 7K2000s. However I do not have your raid card.

drescherjm - thanks for the insite, i would still like to hear confirmation of anyone mixing and matching the 7k3000s and 7k2000s in a raid 5 or 6 on an Areca card with no issues. Would hate to start expanding with 7k3000s only to run into issues down the road.

I am doing this with an Areca 1680i / HP SAS expander / Norco 4220 case and have had no problems. One RAID 5 array with two 7K3000s and four 7k2000s and one RAID 1 array with one of each. Have had no issues at all. Arrays have been in use for about 10 months if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks fo the confirmation, out setups are pretty close. I am running with a Areca 1680 8port card myself and will be ordering my HP SAS expander within the next two days. I am using the Norco 2040 case would have perferred the 4220 but it wasn't available when i ordered mine.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

No time for me to find these drives at a decent price:D
