The computer in my sig has some kind of malware. Avast recommended shutting down and doing a scan from bios. I did that and it found a virus. But now the screen is asking me to press one to delete it, etc.

Problem is that I have a wireless USB mouse keyboard. It doesn't seem to be working. I assume the USB drivers aren't functioning at this low state. I found a keyboard with a ps/2 connection but I don't think this mb has that connection.

How can I give commands?

Thanks

Did that ps/2 keyboard come with a ps/2 to USB adapter? They aren't generic, so it would probably need to be the one that came with that motherboard. Otherwise your options would be to use a bluebox type universal ps2->usb interface, or a cheap usb keyboard.

Actually the keyboard I am trying is a m$ wireless keyboard that has a USB and ps2 cable on the transceiver. I guess I need to find a wired USB kb. Maybe I ask my neighbor tomorrow.

If you have other ideas I'm all ears.

That motherboard has a UEFI Bios,, if you can access the bios through windows, try looking for "USB Legacy mode" in the bios options.. turn this on.. now you should be able to use your keyboard outside of the Windows OS. you may also try installing malwarebytes anti-malware.. you can download it from www.malwarebytes.org this should also remove your malware.

I tried my nieghbors USB wired keyboard and it wouldnt work either.

I already have malware bytes but avast caught this one.

I'll try the uefi suggestion and see if that helps. I guess I'll have to reboot try again.

Uefi bios already had USB legacy support active.

Avast was doing a boot time scan. It says this is done with direct disk access. Would that be before the uefi bios launches? Is there another way to boot scan? I did a malwarebytes scan and it didn't find what avast has found doing the boot scan.

Again, when avast found the malicious item I had no way to tell it to delete since I can't use the keyboard. My mb apparently doesn't have an old style keyboard connection.

Make sure you are plugging into the black or red ports. The Blue ports by the audio are the 3.0 ports and will only be active in Windows.

I use Linux Mint 12 for browsing, email - comes with FF and TBird - in a dual boot with Win 7, both in GPT mode, so I never get virus stuff
http://linuxmint.com/

But all the other AV are crap except Bitdefender
Never ceases to amaze me at the stuff it finds and FIXES!
They are running the i year free AV special now
http://www.bitdefender.com/media/html/en/trial-download/Bitdefender_AV_index.html
Its 10X better than the others like Kaz or Eset
Combofix as a one time cleaner will get most anything from a booted to CD

I install Bitdefender 2012 Total Security on PC's I build, but I will warn you in advance it has quite a leaning curve. Quite annoying until you get it the way you want it.

The trojans now on warez and porn sites are really hellish things, and if you go to these type sites you need to go Linux for peace of mind
