Looking to buy another 27" monitor...

What is the minimum refresh rare i should be looking at for least eye strain?

Eye strain has more to do with other factors besides refresh rate. Most LCDs do not flicker, so it is more about brightness, dot pitch, and room lighting.

I have currently have a SAMSUNG S27A850D.

Great monitor BUT it literally is killing my eyes and causing a headache.

The refresh rate on this monitor is 60hz, so would it help if i got a monitor that had a higher refresh rate 120hz?

It won't be any better for stationary content. To reiterate, LCD's do not flicker.

No. Try turning down the brightness

That is the First thing i did.. its currently down to 36 from 100.

Do you think that the viewing distance would make a difference? How far should i sit from the monitor?

2-3ft should be fine. 36 Brightness is still quite bright, I use 19 for 120cdm/2 on mine.

The problem likely lies with your eyes or room lighting.

Do you use your computer in a dim or bright environment? If dim, consider bias lighting. If bright, ensure that your monitor is positioned to minimize glare/reflection.
