Am I correct in thinking that the U2410 is LCD, while the U2412M is LED? Will it make a noticeable difference?

I will be using it for a combination of programming, web usage, and gaming.

Yes, the 2412M is LED and 2410 is LCD. The 2412M is reported to less utility hungry so one should save a bit on the power bill. Bought one the other day, but cannot report on it unit it arrives later next week..Sorry

U2410: CCFL backlighting, 8-bit H-IPS = better image quality, better connectivity/ports, more expensive, and a frame or two of input lag depending on the mode

U2412M: LED backlighting, 6-bit e-IPS, less connectivity (no HDMI and no in-aspect 1080p), cheaper, and no input lag

Personally I'd go with the U2412M as long as you have no plans on hooking up a PS3 or something like that.

Thanks Nihilanth99 - I am planning on hooking up an xbox to it, and the better image quality is certainly something that appeals!

if you are going to get an u2410, make sure it has the latest revision in it!!

the first revision a00 had problems with image quality. dell tells people that the latest revision is a02, but i have seen for sale up to revision a05, you got to ask people because i don't know for certain.

The latest is A06 - and I think most people are oblivious to changes after A02 which basically eliminated most uniformity issues.

Doing a quick Google search shows people with the A06 as far back as April 2011. So, if you buy used, I don't think you will have much to worry about. If you buy from Dell, you definitely don't have to worry.

U2410 - better connections, wider gamut, lower image contrast, possible pink green uniformity, higher cost. ( not owned, but info from research )

U2412M - LED, lower power consumption, standard gamut, higher contrast, possible uniformity issues, lower cost. ( I have 2, returning 2 with uniformity issues ).

u2412m - good. because e-ips panels are better than tn panels.

u2410 - better "if" it comes with latest revision.

2408wfp - i am not sure, but i think that the older 2408wfp has better image quality than the u2410. it is something like the "new" u2412m. people love "new stuff".

and if you decide to buy from dell. 1-you are going to pay more, 2-ask for/demand the latest revision. (they always try to cheat people)

Thanks for the information everyone.

I was actually planning on getting it from scan.co.uk, but I might consider getting it from Dell themselves.

I've got a U2410f. I bought my original in December 2009 and it had an issue about six months later where the "image" would completely disappear from the screen at times and flicker, though the monitor's backlight would stay on. I got it replaced and they sent me an a02 and I had no issues with that until very recently where the right side of the screen started to produce some sort of static wavy pattern. I just got my replacement today and I was sent an A06 revision that was manufactured in November 2011. Was trying to find what changes were done for A06, but having a hard time finding any information on it.

I use the monitor for games and for work and I absolutely love it. I would definitely purchase a Dell monitor directly from Dell. They are extremely good about replacements under warranty. Both times I had mine replaced, they had a new monitor at my door within 2-3 days. If you go through a 3rd party, I believe there are extra hoops you have to go through for warranty stuff.

In regards to the latest revision currently available,

7 days ago, I've replaced one of my A00 U2410's due to a malfunction with the DVI-#1 input.

I've received a brand new A09 U2410f instead.

Regards,

I just bought a u2410 (for 175 bucks :D) w/ revision A07 with a manufacture date of Jan 2012.

2408wfp - i am not sure, but i think that the older 2408wfp has better image quality than the u2410. it is something like the "new" u2412m. people love "new stuff".

The 2408wfp is also a *va panel so it is an entirely different beast. I actually prefer *va over ips myself, but I would guess that I'm in a minority for that here.
