Okay so for years now i've been using acronis true image workstation for my bare metal back ups. The current version that i have which is true image workstation 9 have been working great. But now that im on windows 7 x64 the current version that i have wont work. (that is i cant launch the bootable media without constantly getting 'Unable to launch linux kernel' error). Acronis' prices are getting waaaaay outta hand and their software seems to be gimped to high hell. They wont even offer me proper software to truly test their products to make sure it does everything i need.

So members of [H] what software solutions do you use for bare metal back ups? I'm looking for software that can create bootable media and run from that.

I've been surprisingly satisfied with the built in imaging backup included with Windows 7. I regularly backup W7 systems to an external USB drive, swap out the hard drive, boot from a system recovery CD (made from within the backup program) and restore the partitions to the new drive. It's reliable, fast and free.
