Support environmental reform: Drink More Beer.:D A brewery in Alaska is making that happen by recycling its grain waste as fuel to power their grain-drying boilers. By using the grain on site, the brewery is also saving fuel by not transporting to its normal destination of Seattle, Washington, a distance of about 850 miles.

"The new boiler will eliminate the brewery's use of oil in the grain drying process and displace more than half of the fuel needed to create process steam," the company said in an emailed statement.

Cool. I've driven past that brewery and been on the ferry to Washington, so I know how wasteful that must have been to ship out all the used wort.

Wort is the liquid that leaves the mashtun after it has been ran through the crushed malt... That left over malt is called spent grain, which is what you are referring to. Just an FYI if you are interesting in the brewing process.

Suppose that's a lot more efficient than shipping it that far, but I doubt any brewery anywhere near where cattle, pigs, etc are raised would bother as it's an excellent animal feed.
