I really want to get into 3d gaming and im wondering if anyof you guys have any insight into it. The set up i want to get is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236092&Tpk=asus vg236h

Now is this a good setup for the money i dont really need top of the line but i dont want it to not work for shit also.

My computer at the moment is 965be @3.9 and a gtx 470 4 gigs o ram will this be enough to run games in 3d?

So my question are.

1. Is it worth it, is it fun to play games in 3d or just make them harder?

2. Does anyone know if a bestbuy or anything has a demo i can see before buying.

If you have anything to add or comment on i appreciate it im thinking of getting this soon if it is all legit.

Thanks.

I cant speak for that monitor or glasses setup, but I have a 27" Samsung S27A750 coupled with an Asus 6970 CUii and the 3d is amazing on Mafia II and Batman AA. Some games are hit or miss, but when you get a game that utilizes 3d properly I find it way more immersive than even eyefinity multiscreen gaming.

Here is the product page for the S27A750, however, it will not do 3d for Nvidia cards unless your card has a display port.

3d is currently better with AMD cards because they allow sequential 3d whereas Nvidia only does side / side 3d....but if you wanna stay on the green team and keep your card then I would recommend this monitor for you...yes its pricey but save up a little bit more because the 27" screen is easier on the eyes than the small 23" and the screen is also amazing for 2d apps.

And if you get the samsung make sure you GET THE S27 and not the T27...the T27 does not do 3d!

hmm thats too bad about amd being better at 3d i was not really wanting to redo my rig as it already does everything no problem atm.
Im gonna keep investigating some more, im still interested to get a nvidia's users point of view.

I have the Asus and have owned the Samsung 950, the Asus is better. If you have a Nvidia card you can't really use the 3D Samsung displays w/o using a trick to get it to work and lots of issues.

A single 470 will cry when trying to play games in 3D. I have 12gb 2000mhz RAM, i7 [email protected] ghz and heavily ocd'd sli 480's and my frame rates can be pretty poor in 3D during graphically intense games like Lost Planet 2 and Metro 2033. 3D is amazing and worth every penny IMO.

I'm Canada, the only store I've seen with 3D PC demos are NC1X...

If you're gonna get a new 120hz samsung, make sure you have a displayport capable card. Don't burn yourself like all those poor so-and-sos in the reviews on newegg that 1-egg the monitor just because their dumb asses didn't do their homework.

@Blackplastic
don't worry, nvidia IS better for 3d, just ignore samsung monitors :)

last time I checked best 3d monitor was some 24" Acer and I'd go for that as it's probably much cheaper compared to other brands :D

as for 3d itself it really pump a lot of life into games!

Well I don't think I Play too graphic intense games. Right now I'm playing world of tanks deus ex and civ5. Gonna pick up skyrim and diablo 3 when they come out.
So hopefully my 470 can handle those. I don't really play fps I'm more into RPGs.

i occasionally play 3d games on a 1920x1080 55in Samsung 3d HDTV. It is more immersive. my only 3d gaming experience is with Nvidia, so I don't know if AMD is dramatically different. a few things to consider:
1. frankly, the novelty wears off fast, given the need to wear clunkly glasses that strain your eyes.
2. graphics flaws become more apparent. 2d models just seem "flat" odd. flaws in 3d models become more apparent. some eye candy atmospherics won't render well in 3d.
3. 3d is much more taxing on your video card, so performance can be worse on older/less powerful cards.
4. resolution: this may not be an issue with a true 120hz monitor vs an hdtv, but 1280x720 at 60hz is the max in 3d for some sets. on my screen i have to set the resolution to 1920x1080 at 24hz. this also requires having to go into the Nvidia control panel to manually turn the 3d on and off and change the resolution every time.
5. game compatability is a bitch. just because a game is newer does not mean it is 3d compatible (i.e. Shogun Total War 2), at least with Nvidia drivers. sometimes newer drivers make compatability worse.
6. don't forget to charge your glasses.

if you are near a Frys, some of their stores may have a 3d gaming setup to demo.

I game in 3D, and absolutely love it. It adds a lot of immersion, especially in things like MMO (too bad Rift has problems with it :p).

Using the Alienware display... but I'd check, on your place, the new 27" Asus, that has the new tech for newest version of Nvidia glassess.

II'd suggest though the wired USB set - cheaper, lighter, better to wear then the battery operated wireless ones, and cable is long enough so you won't have problems.

And earlier posters are also right about the GFX card. 470 is a bit too slow for that. 3D will eat roughly half of your fps. In WoW my 570s were doing over 120 FPS. In 3D mode they get 56 -65 (depending on location) and raids were barely playable.

Um no, you are dead wrong...Nvidia does not support sequential 3d only side by side....please put your green fanboizm aside and acknowledge factual science

And my Samsung S27A750 is amazing

Well seeing as how my 470 won't cut it and I wanted this to be a cheap setup.
As In I'm not wanting to upgrade my computer just thought I could get the monitor and glasses I guess I'm not gonna do it.
Thanks for the input Im glade I didn't wast my money.
