I've been having a problem for about a week now where all the videos on youtube load really slow (even the ones with just text and music on 240p). Weird thing is this never happened before and it seems to load fine during hours after 1AM or so and this only happens on YouTube. I can steam 720p from Justin.tv, and GameTrailers fine...

Here's my tracert to youtube. Anyone have any idea why this is happening or has anyone experience anything similar?

What client OS are you using again?

Did you already ping -t youtube.com? Any timed outs?

Did you also try the same YouTube clip from a different computer in your network? Tried on wireless and wired connection? Any difference?

Did you change your MTU sizing at all?

I suppose you could change your DNS servers and see if that changes anything...

I am kinda curious to know if you don't got crap in the background eating up your resources while you YouTube (e.g., Windows Updates, Anti Virus Scanning like Real-Time Protection or LiveUpdate).

Windows 7.

Tried various clips on various computers (3 of them).

Nope, I'll do it it the afternoon or tonight. Strange thing is, youtube runs fine at hours when nobody would be using it (i.e. 12am-8am or so).

No changes to MTU

Tried with Google DNS, didn't really help much =S.

Pretty sure nothing else is eating up my bandwidth or resources (I can check in DD-WRT and it looks fine).

Actually, I just looked on Youtube's forum, seems like a lot of people are having this problem too (specifically AT&T and Verizon customers) for the last couple weeks and days (and it's only a problem with youtube, other sites like Justin work fine).

weird...

It seems like in the past month or two, Most of Googles CDN boxes serve Via IPv6. 9 times out of 10, When I load a youtube video, It goes IPv6, Which isn't quite as well peered in my case as IPv4 is. And videos aren't quite as snappy as they use to be. So if your ISP managed to just recently enable IPv6 on your connection. That could be your problem.

Just thinking out loud here.
