Will probably be building a new main gaming rig after the new year and was wondering if it might be a monster paired with some readily and reasonably priced available socket 1366 extreme processors?

If you have any experience with this board, feel free to chime in.

Rest of system I would be thinking about:
i7-980x
G.SKILL PI+ Turbulence 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (CL-6!)
2x Intel 510 SSDs 120gb (not the fastest, but fast and reliable)
1x 6970 (later 2x)

TIA

everything ive read on that board was that it was a great board..personally i dont care for the theme and strange looking heatsinks but it o/clocks like mad and is a quality board all around...giga builds fine boards...im hoping for the x58 oc board myself...

From what I've read, it's a really good board, using high-end quality parts.

For example, the onboard sound isn't a Realtek chip (as opposed to most boards), but a Creative X-fi Fatal1ty chip, which retails for ~$100-150 as an add-on sound card.

I think LGA1155 would be the better route to go though (there is the G1. Sniper2) with a 2600k. It'll outperform the 980x in pretty much all gaming situations, and power consumption will be way lower. And just go with 16gb RAM. Actually, 8 would be plenty.

6, 12 or 24 on this board being triple channel, so the 12 I think.

I think it's either going to be this or wait for the socket 2011 generation, and whatever AMD has available for comparison at the time, though Bulldozer doesn't look any more promising.

Got to say, I have been impressed with how cheaply you can get an i7-980x now ($500-ish), and how well the refreshed X58 boards hold up in performance.

Don't take things out of context. The 8 was because I was recommending you to go with a dual channel setup.
