Is a ZFS server appropriate for a popcorn hour streaming server?

I'm looking at building a homeserver after realizing I had most of the parts (PSU, mobo, hard drives... case and cpu are missing) to store all my media and certain backup. I have a popcorn hour hooked up to three TV and was hoping to use that server as a streaming server for all my files.

I've been reading on ZFS servers, but since it runs a completely different OS, will it even work with a popcorn hour?

How will my main workstation, which runs Windows 7 64bit Pro, be able to interact with files on this server? As a photographer, I've been longing for a backup solution I can readily access old photos to when clients want a reprint.

If it supports SMB, you can make the folder(s) visible as network shares and just access files on them.

Works fantastic with PH. I use Solaris 11 Express with Napp-it for GUI /Windows 7 complete integration. I manage 8TB of data (10x2TB drives) with expansion 30x2TB drives.

Solaris shares are nfs and can stream 90+ MB/s. I have 2 C200's and 1 A-200.

@Wingfat:Nice! I have 3x A-110, but am getting a C-200 soon :)

So you can communicate with your main workstation on Win7 through a gigabit switch without a problem?

You got pics of your setup? I'd be interested to see!
