Android Message Notification Issue

I started having this problem back in November. About 20% of my SMS messages would come to the phone but no notification would appear. I would only know about the messages when I opened the messaging app to send an unrelated message.

So I rooted my moto droid and installed Project Elite v5. I had been wanting to do this for awhile and the message problem motivated me to try it. Seemed to work fine for about a week then the same problem. So I installed Handcent hoping maybe it was something with the built in messaging app. Nope, same problem still.

My other apps give me notifications without issue and I get notifications for most of my SMS messages but sometimes it just doesn't alert me. Any ideas would be a great help.

With Project Elite there is an option to lock applications into memory. Lock messaging into memory. With Android 2.3, which PE5 is based on, is incredibly good at memory management. So good that it constantly kills things that shouldn't be killed because of the lack of RAM in the original Droid.

The incoming message listener is getting put to sleep thus no notification, the same thing happens on my Sprint Hero with CM7 on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I used to run a task killer. I don't do that anymore :)
I'll post back if it seems to work.
