Got a PC here (not my own) that needs a replacement motherboard and cpu. Since this PC is for Photoshop and gaming, I have selected an Intel Core i5 2400 or 2500 (1155) processor but I need a good, budget motherboard (single ATI card). May I have a few suggestions? I do not plan to overclock.

Budget for the processor and motherboard is £200.

Thanks

single or multiple video cards? single card i would recommend a ga-p67-ud3. good budget board.

If you are using a single graphics card and not overclocking then then is no real point in getting a P67 board. H67 or H61 boards seem to be far better value at the low end.

How many ram slots do you need? do you require 4 or is 2 accetable?
What if any expansion slots (other than the graphics slot) do you need?
do you need USB3? SATA6G? Firewire? how many of each port?

Will the H67 or H61 boards support the 1155 i5 processor? What's the difference between H61 and H67?

I need 2 RAM slots but 4 would be nice for the future. I need a PCI slot for the sound card, USB3 and SATA6G are nice but not important, neither is Firewire.

H67 and H61 supports 1155

H61 is a lower cost implementation of H67 (eg some H61 boards dont have SATA 6)

So what good, budget board should I get based on the information I have given here? or does it not matter? Should I just punt for one?

I'll wait another day then I will have to pick a motherboard myself...I am disappointed I got no relevant suggestions.

I believe that none of the H61 boards have SATA III. Most don't have USB 3 (not on the chipset itself but still seems to be missing from most). Also no Clear Video, no RAID and less USB ports

That Asus board you are considering looks good. My friend is also looking for a H67 board and the MSI H67MS-E43 also looks good.

Guys really quick, this board seems to have more features than the ASUS with SATA 6GB and 2 extra RAM slots.
Hmm, I missed that board only having two ram slots, it does have SATA 6G though (even though scan don't mention it).

I read a customer review who said this is a solid board. It also has a 3 year warranty unlike the ASUS which has just 2 years. Any objections?
I thought you needed a PCI slot. That board doesn't have any.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/giga...-pci-e-20-(x16)-ddr3-1333-sata-6gb-s-raid-atx may be worth considering (I didn't look at it before because it's over your price range but it's only slightly more expensive than the board you just linked).

Good call on my board... no PCI slot, how I didn't notice that is beyond me and I am grateful you mentioned this! That board you linked looks excellent, I think I will get that one... thanks
