Is nobody playing the PC version of Brotherhood?

Spooky. No mention of this title on the PC.

Somebody here must be playing it? I was forced to hold off on this one due to having just bought Dragon Age 2, Shogun 2, Crysis 2, and the excellent Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition for two dollars.

But it's right up there at the top of my list. Anybody?

I'm playing it... kind of. Got sidetracked by the Vindictus event this weekend. According to steam I've played 8 hours of brotherhood... but my in game time is considerably less, meh. So far it feels more sandboxy... or maybe I just haven't really got the plot jump started much. I'm literally running around doing the investing game trying to maximize profits as soon as possible.

I'm playing it. It's good. Graphics and performance are both better than Assassin's Creed 2. The game itself I find is not quite as good as the second though.

I'm not really sure what the point of investing is other than getting items for investing a certain amount in a particular vendor or type of vendor. The actual amount of profit you make is pretty low, even for higher-risk investments.

I'm waiting until I beat AC2 to pick it up. I was planning to play AC2 this weekend, but Medal of Honor and Crysis 2 have got my attention.

I started playing earlier this week. Put about 13 hours, and the game says I'm 39% complete. I'm assuming that includes all of the extra stuff, because it feels like I'm further than that (unless its just a really long game).

So far I think it's pretty good. Still have some issues with it: the horses are awful, the Leonardo missions had me raging like a babby from the poor controls. Overall, it seems a lot more streamlined though. Many of your weapons are combined so that you can do two different actions from the same icon (for example, sword and gun, dagger and knives) and the assassin system seems pretty cool, although the progression is shallow.

Should probably have rephrased what I said earlier... I didn't mean the literal investing in the game (investing in a specific shop), but just taking out borgia towers and buying up all the stuff around it, that kind of investing.

One thing I'm curious about is how good the two handers get eventually. I purchased the first axe that you get and overall I feel it's just too slow. What exactly are the advantages of two handers over the normal sword?

I started using a two-handed sword recently. Based on what I can tell, it's just more powerful, although it doesn't let you use the gun along with it like you can do with a normal sword. I've also been able to take out a lot of enemies in one hit by charging my sword attack (hold down the attack button to do a more powerful strike).

Jesus, I had no idea about the two handers - how do the animations look? Slower? Wow, that would be really cool. I tend to enjoy slower combat.

And what's that about the horses? I heard that you can ride horses in the city. I loved riding horses in AC2 - thought it was wonderfully immersive.

Two-handed weapons are in Assassin's Creed 2 as well. It's not a new addition.

You know what other game I was wondering about. Maybe I should slip it in here, where people can't see it. But it was The Sims Medieval. It just looks kind of unique to me.

No I didn't.

The what was a... what! And the I did not know that was a... I did not know that?

i did not know that is not a question, its a statement.

"what?" is a question by definition.

what? my chicken laid an egg?

"What?, I did not know that!" is correct

i have played assbro quite a bit on my xbox and its a blast. I dont want to play it on my PC as its great on my 360 and i dont need 2 copies of 1 game

As childish as it is the short name AssBro makes me chuckle.

i bought the two handed axe, it's awesome.

also i like how you are still more than capable of surviving 50 v 1 melees without ever getting hit. once you get your first kill it turns into a fucking murder spree of you bouncing between targets slashing throats and shit.

The word 'what' can certainly be exclamatory. You're communicating with a professional copy editor here. I work for a trade book publishing company, so I think I would know.

Alright, put the measuring tapes away. You're both pretty. Lol

Just like AC2. I never played the first one yet, but in the 2nd when starting out I was pretty scared to even get in a fight with any guards, especially the big dudes. After you learn how to disarm though it got ridiculously easy.

I am. Love it. It'll be on my GOTY short list for this year easily just like AC2 was last year.

I enjoyed the console version, so unless the PC version is unoptimized or buggy - it should be terrific.
It's not as long as AC1 or 2 (you spend 95% of your time in Rome) but there's a lot of variety to the missions, scenery, and things you can do.
Getting full sync on some missions is pretty ridiculous, though. With at least 2 of them you have to either use an exploit or just get lucky.
It's probably still worth noting that for all of the weapons you can get the hidden blade is still by far the best. Since there's no difficulty setting, I really don't understand why they didn't tone that one back a little.

Never had any bugs in an AC game on the PC yet.

Menus and optimizations of sorts are identical to AC2. Everything cranked up it looks gorgeous and runs great.

I find that if someone wants to be thorough, and I always try to be with these...I'm going to get a hell of a lot of gameplay out of even this "shorter" game. I never am able to get 100 percent. I still have some things left undone in AC2. I'll never find all the feathers and stuff like that, for example.

2 handers were in AC 2 but only if you disarmed an NPC that was using them against you. Some pretty cool killing moves in there with the 2 handers :)

Well, "I did not know that" is still not a question.

I didn't care for the two-hander in Brotherhood as much as AC2 because it's too slow. In ACB, the combat is all about the execution chains, and you do them with any weapon, fast or slow, strong or weak. I found myself using the short blade most of the time because it's got the fastest killing animations. The 2h weapon has neat looking, very brutal animations, but they are comparatively very slow.

Hey Wabe go ask your copywright co-workers if "I did not know that" can be posed as a question.

Well technically it can be... if you have multiple-personality disorder or amnesia or something similar. ;)

Like Hellraiser I also did not like the first game at all, but maybe I should give this one a shot. What makes it better than that one? (I didn't play the second either due to the DRM)

As you well know, I'm a copy editor, not a copywriter. Thank you. And, by the way, you forgot to use a question mark.

One question about the graphics: any improvements at all over AC2?

I feel like it's more detailed. The Colosseum looked amazing. One of my friends has the xbox360 version. I'm tempted to go snatch his copy and put it side by side with my PC.

No, he didn't. He made a statement, not a question, so his use of a period to conclude his sentence is correct. ;)

The graphics are definitely improved. Better textures, better animation, much better lighting, better shadow resolution, better draw distance, etc. The individual changes are pretty subtle, but altogether it's a pretty noticeable difference.

It's a good game, not quite as good as AC2, especially story wise, but no, I didn't buy it for PC, I bought it for my PS3, since I saw no point in waiting for the PC version.

AC2 in Eyeinfinity looked frickin gorgeous from some Youtube videos I've seen.

Yea I've been playing it since release. Got distracted by Crysis 2 on launch day but then I came right back to this one. 25 hours in and I'm only 40% sync'ed.

On the whole it's a lot better than AC2 was. There are a bunch of new things they added or tweaked that feel a lot better than the last game. However, this game is a lot more of a sandbox than AC2. As in, you should only get it if you enjoy roaming the world doing side activities, and trust me, they have packed the game to the brim with extra shit you can do. And that's because the main story quest is really short. 9 memory sequences, I've done 6 and I'll estimate that it took me less than 5 hours to do them. Meaning if you stick to the main story, it won't really last more than 8-10 hours tops. However, if you get lost in the game world like I did, it will easily take a good 30 hours if not more. And that's before you start the multiplayer.

Definitely GOTY material and it's a shame PC gamers are ignoring it. It's low on the Steam top sellers charts and no one is talking about it on the various forums I visit.

Played the multiplayer portion a little bit with a friend, but we had a lot of issues trying to play together so we gave it a rest. What I did get to play was quite fun, so i'm anxiously awaiting a patch of some sorts.

Didn't they also add ambient occlusion? It's a subtle effect, but I miss it whenever I disable it. In Dragon Age 2, for example, it's a bit of a resource hog, but whenever I switch it off, ten minutes later I switch it on again.

Anyway, on the one hand I'm glad to see these positive comments (usually by the third game, the series is in rapid decline), but on the other it's somewhat troublesome that amidst all this complaining I'm seeing at this forum, and at others, the one title that got it right isn't being discussed.

I understand that the DRM is as light as it's going to get too. And look at the starting price point $49.99 - you could shave an extra twenty percent off via one of the by now regular D2D 20 percent off sales. The game's production values appear to be as high as you'll likely see in a triple-a game. And the engine runs smoothly and is about as bug free as a game of this caliber can be.

Just... why? Maybe silence is the best you can hope for these days. It's like people only know how to complain.

Yea it does seem a bit like that doesn't it. People who are actually playing it seem to be liking it. Much like what happened last year with AC2... people who played it liked it, and the rest were just too busy complaining about the DRM. Give it time though, I have no doubt PC gamers can find something to complain about with this game too ;)

Its not free. Does that count? :D

Anyway I really need to reinstall AC2 to beat it so I can get on to ACB.

I think the primary reason for the relative silence over this game is the delay in release. I'm guessing most of the folks who wanted to play it did so already when it came out months ago on the consoles. Just speculating though.

Definitely possible. I have both consoles but I held out for the PC version and it was worth the wait :D (although I suppose that assertion is somewhat debatable since I have already decided I will get one of the console versions of AC3 this November).
