i guess "Chuck" eats up about $60bucks a month in power. ANd since im a stay at home dad/ student. i dont pay the bills

hopefully she lets me keep him running. If she dont i may have to part him out :-(

New PSU finally came back from RMA brand new ax1200. So hopefully he will be back online sometime this weekend.

Chuck is hungry! You should have named it a less hungry name like Victoria.

Thinking about it that didn't work so well for me. I named my daughter a girly name and at four she already eats me out of house.

Really though you just have to assume if someone (or something) is named Chuck you would expect them to be a big eater!

LOL i think she will let me keep him running. but i was only expecting like $25-$30 bucks in crease. Not $60

SHe asked since i pulgged that picture frame in (electroinc) the power bill went up $60 bucks. (she didnt know about chucks capacity) or maybe it could be the picture frame :)

Wow, $60 is more than my total electricity bill, but I don't fold and this kind of electricity cost is the reason why.

What? I cant remember my bill ever being less than $100 even before i started folding.

Definitely the picture frame. Dont you have GPUs in that box? just turn those off and run Bigadv :D

Yha, but 60 bucks is less than a cup of coffee a day, so really, just say you didn't have a coffee today ;)

Be lucky..... half my power bill is a debt recovery fee, because the power company doesn't have to be in the red, and can make up bad desxicions by adding a extra fee.

They "serviced your account"

I don't recall the comedian that had that in his routine but it certainly applies in your case.

There are so many things that cost "as much as a coffee a day" though, i think i would be on about 10 grandes a day. And i make my own coffee!

$2 a day.... if you drink starbucks everyday... they yeah you spend more

see.. you shouldn't of overclocked that dang picture frame, filter...

What are they charging per Kw in your area?

no idea shes going to ask.

but at my peak i had 4 460's 1 470 2 580 and a 980x and 2600k and an old 9300 running so i know its not all from chuck.

Don't forget to remind her of how much money you guys are saving on the heating bill from folding :)

unfortunately i have to have the windows open cause it gets so hot. we never have to turn the heat on. ( live on 3rd floor so we get all the heat from below us)

A coffee a day costs you more than 60 bucks a month? What the hell do you put in your coffee? Solid gold? A decent-sized coffee should cost no more than $1.50, and even that is a little pricey.

couldn't imagine my power bill. will keep enjoying free electric for now :)

While distributed computing is a great idea, I think people spending $60-$100 a month for folding is insane. 12months at $100 a month is $1200 a year & 12months at $60 a month would be $720 merely for electricity in order to try to help out good causes. The majority of you would never donate that money to a good cause directly so others more suited can search for answers, you'd rather spend it on electric and try to get your pc to discover the cure for aids.

.

While some people may be able to easily afford this cost, people like "student who lives off my wifes income" there obviously can't afford it. He's lying to his wife and spending her money without her full knowledge or consent, all in the sense of being a "good guy" which is madness.

Wait 'till she starts lying to you about where your money is going, you'll feel really good then :(

Lots of poor ASSsumptions you made here. You would have been better off just looking stupid than opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

My largest electric bill was $800 one August in the midst of one of our worst summers here in TX. Needless to say production went down for a little bit after that.

I've been paying an extra 100-130.00 a month for over a year now to keep up the Folding. However apparently some time yesterday I reach a personal goal of completing 50,000 work units, only about 30 team members have done this. So this weekend I'm about to reconfigure some hardware in machines, and now reduce my power consumption a lot since the C2Qs are getting to where they are not worth running cost wise.

OOhhh look, the quote machine has spoken. What's wrong...do you FAIL at conjuring up thought and comments of your own and so therefore feel the need to quote much smarter people who have come before you?

Which assumptions?

Well as with all folks you have your opinion, and obviously not everyone agrees with it. You may feel that spending 1200.00 a year on electricity for a D.C. project is insane. But think about it. People spend a great deal more than that per year on things like mods for their vehicles like wheels, a stereo, etc. Or 5000.00 for a bike like Lance Armstrong rides, 20,000 for a boat that gets used three months a year, etc, etc and none of those at least have potential for helping someone find a cure for disease.

What any person chooses to spend money on is really a personal choice and I don't feel it's right of you to be acting judgmental about how someone else makes that choice. If it's not for you, so be it, that's fine.

You have no right to judge Filter's situation or his relationship with his wife, since it doesn't concern you. How he manages his money is something he has to deal with. If he can handle the expense, it's up to him whether or not he wants to fold. If you're going to come in here just to crap on peoples' threads, don't expect to last very long.

I would love to know THOMO do you drink? smoke? eat fatty, bad for you foods? that is more about wasting money then this is, at least this could potentially help someone, other things people do, don't.

there is a list of things i am sure we could all list that people "Waste" their money on that does no good to them or man kind, but that is how they choose to spend their money.

I give enough of my money to plenty of charities (its called income tax) that I have absolutely no desire to contribute to. I choose to contribute to this one because of the research it does.

Pray tell, how much and to what charities do you donate willingly to?

Your average student/dad/kid living with parents shouldn't normally be purchasing $5k bikes. You've taken it to an extreme. We're talking about a guy on a forum with no wage who lies to his wife about elecy and posted on a forum he's gonna have to reduce his bill. It's painfully obvious the guy can't fuckin' afford it so why are you uttering complete nonsense about what people should be able to do? How about he should be out gettin' a job instead of sittin' around on his pc at his wifes expense folding away like a saint posting about his woes on HARDFORUM?

Excuse me, but when he post about his situation and relationship on an internet forum he EXPECTS people to judge, except he only wanted to hear from those who judged favourably and agree with him. He posted this thread about electricity costs and how his wife is the only one bringing in a wage. Now you're tellin' me I can't comment negatively or post my opinion on his situation?

Yikes, my power bill has only been over $100 total once, normally ranges between $70-90 depending on season (higher in the winter and middle of summer (electric heat and A//C)).

I am hoping it drops down a little bit after moving my WHS over to an atom based box.

perhaps... but you just picked on the whole DC group... if you didn't expect a backlash... you really didn't think it through...

Yes he asked for opinions.... there are a lot of things that add up to $60 a month.. you can choose to cut those or cut folding... or you can cut half of each...
I would suggest selling a gpu and keeping folding... or just doing bigadv... if you can't swing $60 figure out where to cut...

I don't recommend living outside your families means...
but I also don't see you as the bum thomo thinks you are... I read stay at home dad and student...

let me clarify my wife knows about folding and fully supports it.When she asked about it i didnt lie i told her right away it wsnt the picture frame it was proabbly "Chuck" like i said we were both kinda shocked that one machine would of raised the power bill $60 bucks a month.

Its not that big of a deal were going to see what the power bill is this month and go from there.
Were not strapped for cash or anything like that. and were not living outside our means.

Worse case ill just shut Gpu's down and rung bigadv on him till i start work.

Neither of us smoke drink etc. so she knows its a hobby and loves my grandfather who has alhzemiers and knows its for a good cause.

You're not a folder and you're apparently against the idea in principle. Therefore, you have no business coming into the DC forum and judging other people. The only reason you're doing it is to troll and start arguments. So no, you can't post your opinion on his situation. Your opinion is meaningless and irrelevant.
