3. You can't run an HDMI to DVI cable from your console/hddvd/bluray to this monitors DVI, you'll get no signal
Thanks for the reply!
Ouch this kinda stinks. That means it does not support the component's sync on green through a VGA cable?
I'm very worried about getting a VGA converter due to the extra processing and potential extra lag added. Any ideas regarding this?
Thanks!
Just thought I'd share some recent images (as of about 10 minutes ago) displayed on my nearly 4-year old Soyo DYLM24D6, since this thread has stopped discussing how awesome this panel is and has become more of a tech support thread
Want me to upload a video to youtube showing you what happens when I connect my PS3 via HDMI > DVI to my Soyo? I'll do it right now if you want. I don't really care what you say in theory, because in reality you can't do it with this monitor. I've tried. It works on my friend's 24" Soyo TN Panel, but he has a Pearl model, not a Topaz-S which leads me to believe it's something to do with the different EDID informationNote vagetto is trying to connect his XBOX, not a 360 to his monitor.
Plus this is WRONG. My 360 displays ALL GAME output fine on my non hdcp monitor. It requires no hdcp for games. However, it probably won't upscale DVD's to HD resolution though, but then again I never watch DVD's on my 360. Also if you have an ancient HD-DVD drive for the 360, they won't play in HD on a non hdcp connection (don't know if it'll just scale them down or completely refuse to play.)

I don't know about the component sync on green support because I used a converter that output a standard VGA signal. All of those adapters at dealextreme should do the conversion. Oh, the monitor will most probably not support 1080i on its VGA port as well since most interlaced signals are not supported by LCD monitors (requires them to buffer fields, whereas analog CRT's would just draw each field as it got it.) Anyways, from what I recall, the Xbox is so slow, it renders HALO at SD resolutions and upscales if you have an HD component connection, so the quality shouldn't be any better with 480p output or 720p output.
I have 3 Dell U2311H's and their PQ is definitely not better than my Soyo, largely due to the viewing angle issues with IPS Glow, the only inherent problem with viewing angle shifting with my Soyo is red shift, which in comparison to the Dell's is a much less noticable than the IPS glow on the Dell's

Yesterday morning the monitor would display " digital input" then go black and come back on and do it again. I could shut down my machine and when I turned it back on it would be fine. Last night the power led went out and now the monitor is dead.
I'm so bummed and looking for a modern replacement. Any suggestions?
The PSU of the monitor went out, my guess. I bought a spare power unit awhile back just in case something like that happens. If you want to replace the power unit, you can buy mine...I am not interested in keeping it beyond its inital death (if it ever happens). I think I paid something like $30 for it. This is a revised power unit that will last so much longer than the original board, I was told. In the middle of this thread, there are posts about this power unit. LMK...
Would the power supply have caused the flashing " digital" thing as well?
I just went and got some supposedly 24 inch acer from staples and Im not diggin it at all.
Bad caps on the PSU are the most likely cause of this flashing.
Is there a tutorial around somewhere on how to change the thing?
Not on this particular model/brand, but I was able to revive my Samsung SyncMaster 204T by changing two bulging caps on the power circuit board.
Most probably because nobody can get these monitors new anymore and there are modern replacements with better PQ for approximately the same price. e.g. the Dell U2311H... though not exactly the same, it's 1080p rather than 1920x1200, but I would consider it a much superior monitor to the Soyo. But definitely the Soyo had a very beautiful, high quality panel that was a great deal in its time... (same panel as my LG L246wp for 1/2 the price, but with inferior electronics.)
.
Me too. Nowhere to get these anymore.I found this site while I was looking for a way to fix (3) soyo topaz s monitors I got for free. Someone listed them on craigslist and they had labels on them saying "bad power supply" I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction on where to get a new one? I went to that Chinese site that has them but I do not know how to purchase through it. If someone here has one for sale that would be great. Thanks.
The Soyo is 6ms, not 8ms
Isn't it true that you need to use an s-video output on a videocard -> CRT to get true input lag? VGA (iirc) won't give you accurate times on a CRT screen
edit: this may only be correct when trying to find input lag over interlaced resolutions, i.e. a CRT 480i TV
well I got mine in from china, hooked it up and IT WORKS! i am really excited that i was able to fix it and the part came really quickly considering the distance it had to travel. it came with a plug to solder into the board and couldnt have been easier. I am going to order 2 more and do a step by step guide on my blog. hopefully it will help some people out. It will take me a few days to complete but if you want to check out the what is presently a crummy blog you can go to yourdiyguy. Thanks for all the helpful info I will try to add as much to the guide as possible to make it easy to follow.
this was the link i put in taobaogle to order http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=5825510319
the psu they sent me was an updated version
Man how did you manage that? Did you use paypal? I don't even see that as an option.
Yes a little more explanation would be super helpful. I know no chinese
