DCVault: January 2011

The Cuda version of PRP looks interesting. I'll probably try it on a 295 when it's done crunching Primegrid.

If anyone has some extra cores, they might join me on Sztaki. I've been making decent progress with just a 4-core AMD on it. I don't know if there are any other CPU BOINC projects we want to target or not.

Looks like its the PSU however, I switched out the PSU with the one in my server. It gave a long continuous beep and looked that up and said it was memory. Switched out the memory for a stick in the server and it booted! Tried to switch back to old PSU with new RAM and nothing. So I guess its the RAM and the PSU. This computer is getting quite expensive. :(

Glad to hear you're getting it solved. Look on the bright side, now you have an extra motherboard, so slap a quad in there for MOAR D. :D

I'll toss my i7 onto Sztaki for a while. :) Just as soon as the Aqua units finish that is.

Nice points in PrimeGrid SazanEyes! I never thought I would ever have a million PrimeGrid points a year ago and now you can do a million in a day. Way to go!
Speaking of points, I see SazanEyes moved us up a spot in PrimeNet as well.

I think that was a stat hiccup. My normal output is around 500K per day. All I'm using is a GTX 295, GTX 285, and 8800GS, all standard clocked. PrimeGrid is great for points right now, so I might try to scrounge some more hardware.

Ordered new parts for my broken rig, should have it up in a bit, finally. :)

Sazan, I'll take you up on that offer if your willing to donate a quad to me. haha

I don't have any spare quads, but I will sell you my E6600 for $50. I had a mobo die on me so it's an orphan. I have some extra RAM too. :)

Looks like we are finally going to gain a spot in Muon1 probably on the next Vault update. :)
Nice work Commandos.

I may switch to a little Aqua to try and keep us from losing ground there before going back to Muon1 for a run at another spot.

Metallicafan, I may be able to help you out with aqua, as well as keep some cores on Stazki. (The mess of a rig is finally up and running!)

I was thinking for our one year anniversary for the monthly pushes we should have a focus and once again try to have "March Madness".

I have yet to choose a good candidate for the project and am open to suggestions!

Eric - Great idea. I did a search and it looks like last year for "March Madness" we made a push in RCN (which is now finished so we cant do that one again).

I might have just the suggestion. :)
I looked at several projects and found a bunch of projects that given a big push in a month we might be able to gain 8-12 spots in. Then I came across Spinhenge@Home. We only have a total of like 600K points in that project total. A good push in a month and we could probably gain 50 places and get a nice boost in Vault points. Plus another 300 points in the Physical Science section and we will have caught Ukraine in that section.

Now I havent ever ran this projects but it looks like you have, Eric. If you are interested in this project maybe give a few units a test?

EDIT: Dookey - Good to have you working on some POEM@home. Thanks man.

Spinhenge@home if I remember is very low on points granted. The WUs are not very short either. It might be comparable to Stazki where with my two c2d and the i7 I only would get about 1k to 2k per day. I'll try to run some tests later however, I am in my final week of classes and its getting pretty hectic.

I think a push in that section would be perfect and would be able to give us a nice boost ifwe can get enough people.

Let me try Spinhenge and see what the points look like.

No problemo. I decided to split my farm a bit and contribute to multiple projects rather than just Fold.

I have my Sandy Bridge machine knocking out some WCG as well.

Looks like the Spinhenge WUs are only about 40 to 50mins each on a stock i7 920. My ppd is still growing but I'm not sure if it is from low granted points or if it just takes a while for granted points to come in.

WUs have a quorum of 2, so you don't get immediate credit. Looks like they're 16 points each. They take around 30 minutes on a Phenom II 3GHz. That's a theoretical maximum of 3K PPD using all 4 cores, which is a little better than Sztaki. We'll need a big push to move up, but I think it's possible.

Sounds like a great project for a monthly push!

I think we should be able to get a good following. Metallicafan, do you wanna make the next thread for March?

(I am currently recompiling a Kernel for a lab, boy does it take along time. haha.) :(

Sweet. Thanks for taking a closer look at the project guys. So if an average quad could average 3K PPD that would mean it could do roughly 90K points/month. So if we wanted to add 1M points during the madness we would need about 10-12 quads crunching all month.

I'd throw my i7 on it for a month but unfortunately I don't have too many other CPU cores at the moment. :( But if Eric and Sazan add one maybe Razor could allocate one? tr0ach?

At any rate sounds like a good plan. I'll get us a thread started this weekend so we can get prepped. Crunch [H]ard!

If I stop GIMPS and Muon1 temporarily, I have three boxen available.

I would keep the Gimps on SazanEyes, I'm trying to get to a point where I can join you there.
I dropped 1 of my 3 Intel Quads off SOB and will add that to the AMD quad so count me for 2 quads.

I'll definitely be in with my i7 and two c2ds. I am still trying to recruit at my college so far I may have one coming on board but, well see.

just doing wcg, moved an amd 940 over there now, like 5 minutes ago.
feels wasted in folding at home getting 6701 all the time as it feels like.

might getting an amd 630 in again, need a better psu first even if the trust worked it wasn´t rock solid.
and no,wasn´t me who bought it in the first place, kinda inherit it so in desperate situations it can be used short terms.

I'll throw my Sandy Bridge on spinhenge if that's what we're going to do next month. This thing should chew thru those WU fast.

Just put a few more cores on Spinhenge due to ISP line noise so my Hyper-V Server is not performing fully on Majestic-12 (24 million URL's/day) which allows some extra CPU time.
Hopefully this is a temp problem but might as well take advantage of it.;)

It's very nice to see some new faces in our Spinhenge ramp up.
Thanks dmaine, DooKey, and mashtub651 for joining us in our push.
I can see that we are going to make some very nice gains in the next month and I'm very excited to see the DC-Vault points pour in.
Great project to focus on Eric! :D

Another new member that I've never seen in Spinhenge! - metallicafan !!!
Not sure if I know who he is..lol

:D Figured I better represent for the old timers before the new recruits start running circles around me. I have a good feeling about this years March Madness and its not even March yet. Way to go everyone!

Oops, been crunching away at spinhenge for a couple days but forgot to join t[H]e team. Oh well, 3000 points into the the general bucket

It's all good.

Ahh I am not so sure about that. IIRC the points you previously gained join your new team when you switch. :) No waste there. I transferred over about 100k from Einstein@home before.

Yeah, your correct Eric. CraftyOtter's points have been applied in full to our Spinhenge team...Sweet!:)
