Black Ops First Strike preview (COD haters stay out)

I'll hold off till the maps drop down in price a little, $10 is my limit. I am interested to see how the maps are for variety. One of the big problems I had with BO was that all the maps felt the same to me and all seem to cater very much to a run and gun kind of play that is relatively short range, I thought MW2 had a better mix of short long and medium range maps. The gameplay of BO feels more balanced with less bullshit kills, but somehow BO was just missing something for me to keep me playing it. If it adds some more mid and long range maps (like afghan, derail, quarry) that would be nice and would probably get me back into the game.

Black Ops has maps that are typically much more wide open than MW2. There are no skidrows or favelas, rather mostly medium sized maps with some very long sight lines. I will play most maps in BO because most of them aren't annoying, giant, wide open campfests like wasteland and derail always were. Array is the only map that really bugs me, but maps like villa and jungle can get really gay when people are content to sit in their hidey holes and never move.

I don't count nuketown because it's just tiny, not an ordinary map with a lot of small areas.

Interested but won't be buying it if I have to pay for it on the PC.

Roll your eyes because ______? I agree with CryingGod. While I'm liking COD BLOPS I have no interest in spending $15 on such a sparse add on. Give me a good meaty expansion. Sorry but I come from the good old days (just a couple years ago by the way) and realize DLC is nothing but corporate greed and will not invest in it. If you do then knock yourself out but don't troll on others who disagree. If you didn't buy these DLCs maybe we'd revert to the good old days. And yes they were VERY GOOD :p

Looking forward to the map pack. I think the xbox deal is 30 day exclusive, so PC/PS3 should be seeing these around the beginning of March.

I honestly can't believe that $15 is considered to be such a high price point by many people. Five new levels, $3 a piece. Seriously?

DLC is corporate greed. I guess it's safe to call EVERYTHING corporate greed then.

$15 doesn't seem too bad; I'll probably pick this up.

I just hit level 50 in black ops multiplayer and never touched the single player and feel like I got good value from the game already. I will definitely continue to play the multiplayer.

$15 is a lot when you are used to being able to get something for free. PC gamers have ahd access to mapping tools for a very long time and have made some very high quality maps in a lot of games, not to mention the games that have developer released maps for free. Also consider the work that goes into the main game with single player, gamer coding and balancing. 5 Maps is not not even close to 25% of the development work of the full game.

i hope the guy who designed Havana isn't the one who designed any of these new maps.

What's wrong with havana? I like havana I find it to be basiclly a mirror image of crossfire from COD4 which I thought was a fantastic map. Havana is probably one of my favorite maps for BO.

while it's not my favorite map (mostly due to the lighting) i agree that the design is good and very similar to crossfire in COD4. it's the tried-and-true formula of an open corridor down the middle, with tight CQC flanking routes. i also agree with crossfire being one of the best maps in COD4...such fun memories :D

i thought COD1, COD2, COD4, and MW2 were are excellent SP campaigns. Infinity Ward's singleplayer presentation is fantastic IMO, particularly with COD4. i get very immersed in their games, convoluted plot-lines be damned :)

+1 for this, although I didn't really get on the CoD bandwagon until the first Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward delivers!

well pc gamers are getting to pay now.
The gready ass developers charge $60 for a game and then $15 for a map to play it becasue of one thing.
the bs like the live experience hey look microcrap can make a fortune for nothing why can't we.
so we get to pay for everything because console kiddies just yell mom and the credit card goes out.
no thought and no mind....pay for nothing once and its now the way to do it.
