3x22" + 1x30": Can this be done?

Trying to get this sorted out: I run 6950 CF. I've got a 30" with DP and two 22" with DP. I'm thinking of getting a third 22" to run 3x22" in landscape for Eyefinity and the 30" for games that don't work in Eyefinity.

Can this be done? How would I do it?

And if the answer somehow involves "daisy-chaining DP", how do you actually do that?

You should be able to just run the 22" monitors off the displayports and the HDMI port I think, leaving the DVI port for the 30".

Daisy Chaining DP requires a MST Displayport Hub that does not currently exist.

I believe hes right, pretty sure you would use DVI from dual link on the 6950 to the 30" and DVI from single link and 2 mini DP to DP to go to the 22" monitors.

Yeah I think you could use either the single link DVI or the HDMI to the other 22", just not them both.

Assuming your 22s also have DVI, it won't be a problem. DVI and HDMI "share" clocks, ie you can only have 2 of any combo of those. Each DP has it's own clock, so assuming you have a reference 6950 w/ 2 mini-DP, 2DVI and an HDMI, you're good to go even without adapters.

30" to DP#1 (might need a mini-to-regular converter, not adapter)
22.1 to DP#2
22.2 and 22.3 to DVI

Thanks. So basically I can use any combination so long as I don't use HDMI and two DP? All my monitors have DP and DVI and none of them have HDMI.

I have read (from Vega's posts) that there can be issues with 1600p resoultion and DP, so I was thinking that I would run dual-link DVI to the 30", two DP to two 22", and the single-link DVI to the other 22". That make sense?

The main thing, though, is that I want the 3x22" monitors to be in Eyefinity, the 30" to obviously not be in Eyefinity, and all of them to be able to use CF. Is that doable?

Is this a 6 series feature, or something specific to CF, by the way? I thought that at least with the 5 series, you could only connect to three monitors at once. Or maybe that is just specific to running monitors in Eyefinity.

Why don't you just switch out of Eyefinity for unsupported games? WinKey + P, switch to extended and play. Switch back to duplicate mode to get back to Eyefinity.

You can configure the extended to have the center monitor be the primary in that mode leaving your sides displaying just the desktop(s).

Edit: I'm not saying it can't be done, it just sounds like it is more hassle than it's worth unless you are really wanting to use the 30".

Well, yeah, you pay for a $1200 monitor, you tend to want to use it. :)

The 30" wide gamut just looks spectacular for games.

Yeah, that's what I figured. ;)

Travatron's dead on with the hardware out configuration. Setting primary for pushing those non-Eyefinity games to the 30" is still a bit of a hassle. Unless you want to play them windowed and drag them over to the 30", you'll need to set a CCC profile to drive the 30" as primary. Which IIRC will still drop the Eyefinity grouping out on the 22"s because the grouping has to have one of the monitors in the grouping flagged as the primary.

hmm, I think I responded to your other thread, but it can be done.

3x22 on the primary card via DVI, DVI, DP and the 30 on the one dual link dvi and just turn of CF when you want to game on the 30 as the primary OR

3x22 via single link DVI, DP, DP and the 30 on the Dual link and just switch between your primary as to which screen you want to game on.

I ran a similar setup before my current setup w/ 3x2007's + 3007 + 2001

I'll deal with it, I just want it all to work. For the moment, I've decided to go with a 27" Asus LED TN panel as the main monitor for my Eyefinity group. I'll flank that with the two 22" IPS I already own. All the same resolution. (The 30" will go below that setup.) Based on my experience in Nvidia Surround, three identically sized monitors just isn't the best-looking setup with this technology.

If the mismatch in size between the Eyefinity monitors is too drastic, I'll move the 22" ones back into portrait mode to flank the 30" and buy two bigger TN monitors to flank the 27" Asus.
