Scratch on LCD

Due to a series of events I'd rather not get into a scratch now lives on the screen of my LCD computer monitor. Right in the middle, too. The scratch is only noticeable when the screen is bright, but as the intarwebs largely consist of white backgrounds the blemish is rapidly starting to drive me crazy.

In my Googling I found a few commercial solutions, but none of the ones I saw seemed to do what I need. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix the scratch or at least make it less noticeable?

Thanks

Pencil eraers on fix light scratching but if you have a deep scratch you may need to replace the plastic layer above the actual LCD screen. I currently have the same issue. some people said car wax but it yellows over time. I dont feel like shelling out that money for a pro tho.

I tried both kind of rubbing alcohol (isopropyl and ethyl), but neither worked. And I'm not quite prepared to strip off the coating like the rest of that thread suggested. I guess my scratch is deeper than his was.
