Gingerbread, aka Android OS 2.3, not to be confused with Froyo, aka Android OS 2.2, was just released last week for Google's Nexus S.

But you only have a Samsung Vibrant you say?

No worries, Team Whiskey is already at it with Nero v3 that integrates Gingerbread and other cool features!

I'm installing this ASAP, can't right now because I'm behind a slow connection. Any takers so far?

It's pathetic that a bunch of amateurs can get 2.3 working on the Vibrant but we're still waiting for an official 2.2 release.

I'll stick with 2.2 until Master can get 2.3 working. I haven't had much luck with TW's releases.

FYI, there are reports that the Swype in that release is terrible. They're suggesting pushing the swype from the JK6 build instead of the updated Swype in Nero V3

Because the amateurs aren't trying to shove that crappy touchwiz into it.

Is pathetic how google was selling gingerbread as the next biggest thing, but in turn you get the same lagfest on their flagship phone and features people don't want.
People want a smooth OS, people want nice looking stuff not a bunch of text list and a UI that looks straight out of some soviet era designer.

Seriously...? "Soviet era design"? My God, if it ain't fruit-flavored, it ain't "da bomb," is it?

Gingerbread is slowly being ported to the Samsung Captivate, and most likely we will see a decent cooked version before we even see an Official Froyo release. I can't wait!

Last night I took a hard look at the nero v3 rom and didn't install it. There are some posts about gps and mms not working so I just installed the jk6 voodoo fix. I won't install a rom until out has the essentials.

That's funny, so far all I'm reading is that lag is nonexistent on the ext4 file system on the Nexus S

Kudos to Google for pushing updated versions of their OS. Hopefully the more they update their software, the less time it will take phone makers to get off their keister and push out their own version of the update.

I have been running Gingerbread on my Evo from SavageMods and I have to say it is so smooth. The only issue I have with it is no VVM. I miss it, but it doesn't take away from it.

I just loaded Master's Axura Rom. So far so good. Everything is 10x faster without any lag.

So far NeroV3 is what I'm planning on using if I don't see samsung doing something soon. I've never used ANY of the lagfixes on my vibrant and only recently started noticing a dramatic increase in the lag...and it sucks.

He meant team whiskey, not touchwiz.

FYI nero v3 is amazing, but it is still a Froyo rom with a gingerbread theme. There are real gingerbread android 2.3 ports in development for the galaxy s right now, but they are not past the alpha development stage yet.

Might want to go re-read what he wrote and what I said. I was replying to his part about amateurs getting gingerbread running first, not the part about TW roms ;)
