My wife's company had me setup a couple of SRX210's in an HA cluster and a couple of AX411 access points. I hadn't worked with Juniper before but I have more networking experience then anyone in their company so I agreed to do it. I'm trying to figure out what to bill them. I'm not going to try to bill them the actual time i spent since I spent a large amount of time trying to learn Junos and reading kb articles. How many hours would this take to complete for someone familiar with Juniper?

fairly basic setup, or a lot of firewall rules etc? if there's not a lot for the config, it's pretty easy to knock that out in an afternoon or something. I've done half a dozen or so deployments of HA SRX clusters and deployed quite a few single units.

Not a lot of firewall rules, one static nat for their ftp server, and a few vlans setup for the WAPs. I was thinking 4 hours sounded about right. Am I right?

I don't know Juniper that well, but if these were sonicwalls, I would quote 4 hours for that.About 2 hours to get everything setup, an hour to test, and an hour to go over what I did with their IT guys and answer questions.

Anywhere from 6-8 hours total would be fairly reasonable to account for the time it takes to document their requirements, physically mount hem and cable in the rack, mount the access points, configure all of the equipment, and then test and verify.

What you charge per hour is up to you, generally varies by region/market.

Very true. When I was in Boston being a privet contractor not associated with a large firm $40-50/hr was the best I ever did. In upstate NY, any advanced network contract stuff I take on is easily worth $100/hr as there aren't that many people in the area who can do network stuff above basic setup. DBAs, and sysadmins on the other hand, not so much.

SRX are different from the sonic walls. I have a pair of SRX 210H myself and I have extensive experience with the Juniper SRX platform (worked on SRX 5800s). if you need help shoot me a pm. setting up a pair of SRX would require probably about 4 to 6 hours. It also depends if you have to configure additional services such as IDP etc... SSL VPN and L2L VPNs. I would try to bill this as a flat fee project... figure in your hours for support as well.
