If you aren’t a fan of the Beatles or Apple you should probably just log off the internet for the next day or so because that is all you are going to hear about. It looks like the box set will run you $150 which is about $30 - $50 more than the physical box set (that comes with extras).

Lossy compressed versions of the same music + the digitized versions of the bonus materials < Uncompressed versions of the same music + the physical versions of the bonus materials, and the real deal items are less expensive too?

Now that's pretty fucked up right there.

But, unfortunately as is so often the case, people are really fucking stupid and Apple is making money hand over fist because of it right now.

What a world...

Steve Jobs must be turning up the power on his reality distortion field. You need like max power+ in order to get people to buy a digital compressed version of the box set for $30-$50 more than the uncompressed physical box set (someone explain to me how that works?). Then again, maybe not. The Apple faithful will buy it up and somehow think they got a bargain.

What is new about this? Apple always sell inferior products at vastly inflated prices.

For me it seems like Jobs is more giddy about this then most users. As a mac user myself, I really don't give a dam.

That is really good news for Apple and for the millions of people who like Beatles music. Building a repository of music like Apple is doing, the collective works of the Beatles is a basic requirement. Their music was genius and transitionary. Most of all popular music made today can thank the Beatles for the origins.

I agree. Not to mention George Martin(The Beatles producer and another genius) laid the groundwork for many of the modern day recording techniques and technologies. He was just as influential as the Beatles themselves in many ways and is often called the "5th Beatle". You can almost say they used the recording studio itself as another member of the band.

i remember buying a beatle album a while ago for my mom and it was i-tunes.

While flying on a unicorn over the land of Narnia, right?

On topic:

Apple is genius at these retarded announcements and the amount of free advertising disguised as "news."

 YAWN

If you already own the remastered CD's why would anyone buy this? And I agree the price is WAY TOO INFLATED.

I wonder how many Beatles-hating trolls THIS thread will draw?

Wait until I don't care and then act like I am still waiting.
Like waiting for Star Wars to come out on DVD.

I would be more excited if McDonalds brings back deep fried apple pies.

And the Apple zealots will be lining up around the virtual block to overpay for what they already could have owned.

Congrats to them?

This is just like the time Metallica finally gave up and let Apple put their music on iTMS: After years of listening to the musicians bitching about DRM/ownership/pricing/control, and after years of Steve Jobs just saying "no" to every complaint, by the time a deal is struck and a big announcement is made, even the heartiest of fans no longer cares.

Congrats to them?

Not every Apple fan likes The Beatles, and not every Beatles fan cares who is selling it.

Do you guys really think a typical Beatles fan cares where it's being sold, or if it's Lossless or 256kbit?

Nope! It'll net Apple and EMI and the Beatles estate millions, though!

Well, I can almost guarantee that any Apple fan who likes the Beatles has already purchased the music they want & ripped it to mp3 & put it on their ipods YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!(like me)

I like the Beatles, but I don't see the big deal is here... Everything I want by them, I already have at this point...

My concern is: why was announcement from apple frontpage-news-worthy? slow day?

A digital distributor with 90% market share now having the most popular music catalog ever just happens to be considered news by some. Amazing huh?

Love the Beatles- grew up during the 20th anniversary revival in the 80s.

Hate the Apple-hype machine. Apple's just trying to show that iTunes is still relevant in the face of Amazon/Netflix. (two entities I'd rather do business with)

I wonder how long the iTunes exclusivity will last? Because nowadays, it's stupid to sign with only ONE content seller.

itunes has 90% marketshare. This is like saying windows isn't relevant in the consumer pc market because you like linux better. The anti-fanboys here are amazing with their delusions.

What? I doubt Apple needs to show that iTunes is still relevant, and this is coming from someone who mostly goes through Amazon.

This is America. Every company makes ridiculous amounts of money by capitalizing on the average person's stupidity. That's basically what our economy is based on.

It's propaganda, but since it's not state-sponsored, instead just by a single company, it's legal.

And hey, I'm all for it. You can't change people, you can't make them smarter, better, not in this generation anyway. So the only thing you can do.. is make money off of them.

The Remastered Stereo Complete box set of all Beatles CDs, including full albums pamphlets and a DVD is sold for 130$ US on amazon...

There is no reason to buy those songs on iTunes...

But anyone who is interested in music should have this box set in his collection.

I use Winamp to play my Beetles music.
Well not really, I don't like The Beetles, but I do like Winamp.
