Just accepted a job offer and the two options were a Dell Latitude E6410 or a 15" MacBook pro. I've never been much of a Mac fan and have a much stronger windows background but the Mac seems like a much better machine so I went with it. I suspect I'll be doing more development as well which I understand is something that works well on Mac. Unfortunately it's not the 1680x1050 screen - oh well. Still better than the 14.1" WXGA of the Dell.

you'll like it. make sure to get BetterTouchTool for all it's glorious trackpad shortcuts. take some time to learn and setup both spaces and expose with trackpad shortcuts. also, ctrl + q quits a program, the red button just closes that window!

Question - I've got an HP ZR24W and they are buying me a Dell ST2410. Do you think the MacBook pro can drive both at the same time in dual screen mode? I think both monitors support DVI and displayport inputs. Or will I be limited to the laptop screen if I want dual display?

Ampsonic is correct, you'll need additional hardware.

Matrox requires the same resolution on both monitors, there are also USB video adaptors on the market as well.

Alternatively if you have an older pc still at your desk you can also use SCREEN RECYCLER to use the additional display.

Hmm okay guess it's a no go - they aren't the same resolution. Thank you!

This is the second time I wished that the ZR24W could run in windowed mode for lower resolutions. I have an xbox and if I ran it's output to the ZR24W it would stretch to fit rather than giving black at top/bottom for the 120 extra vertical pixels. Maybe it's time I sell it and buy something that can.

Hrmm - or buy another ZR24W....

My favorite part about this new job is that it is work from home so I can finally justify the stuff I've thought about for a long time for a home office.

Whoa! Congratulations on the Macbook Pro! I'm still saving up for it. I have a question just in case. Will it be hard to adjust from being a Windows user to being a Mac user?

I think it depends on what you need to do. Some things about the Mac are really nice. At first I had a hard time with the controls but I'm realizing they put a lot of thought into it and the touchpad rocks! They keyboard is really nice as well. So far I haven't had to do a whole lot - just mainly web browsing and email. My job started today so after a few weeks I'll know more. But in short I'm really happy with it. That's what matters right?

as long as your happy :) that what matters.

Wait till you dual boot windows / mac then the machine really shines, its VERY fast windows laptop.

I got a 15" a few months ago and absolutely love it. I did opt for the screen upgrade. Its a great machine, but if I didn't get the employee discount I never would have purchased it.

What external keyboards are you all using? I'm used to ergonomic ones and don't know that i'll get used to the tiny external Apple KB that doesn't have a number pad.

Also, do you think that the Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition would allow the laptop display to be between two LCD screens? All the pictures I see who them together with the laptop off to one side but I'd like the laptop in the middle.
