I am building a new rig and was comparing the 465's which are only $219 each or a 480 which is $490+ I dont want to overclock much as my house doesnt have air conditioning but normally stays around 74-76 anyway. I will be on air cooling.

Looking at this for my build:

What do you think?

I'd get two 460's in SLi, they'll run cooler than the gTX 465 and have better overclock ability.

I'm running an EVGA gTX 480 at the moment, it runs hot but is very powerful.

I guess I am just worried as I havnt used SLI since my 8800's and although you can use dual monitors in sli now, I dont know what the performance will be. I normally run 2 monitors and will possibly be running a third. 1920x1200 is the resolution I am running.

IMO, two 460s would the better option. Performance scaling is quite good with SLI 460s.

I would go go for 470 in SLi in my opinion, they do run a bit hotter, but you get 500 more megs of video ram, and if you ever decide to go to surround you will be ready.

go for gtx460 quietness
gtx470 or 480 if u want performance and dont care abut noise.
i would not consider 465 unless you get unlockable one

multi gpu solutions are a scam. they exhibit micro stutter which negates it's frame rate gains almost completely. you will practically throw your money away. you will have a smoother gameplay experience with single gpu.

0-:58 single gpu run at 30 fps and is smooth. :58-end is 460 gtx sli at 30 fps and it's stuttery and looks like 15 fps.

Troll = Fail

i post an honest and fair evaluation of my SLI system which included an opinion and the post gets deleted by a moderator. that is quite interesting.

460's it is then. thx guys.

I would agree with the 460 for all the reasons above (esp if you are without AC) but what res are you gaming at anyways? I didn't see it. if you don't have to add a second card in your situation I wouldn't. heat wise you would be better off OCing the hell out of one card then putting two in. if a single 460 isn't going to cut it for you look at the red team or putting in a drier hose mod. (not pretty but they work)

I try to run all my games at 1920x1200 as thats my monitor native resolution. I usually run in windowed mode, maximized because I very very rarely an only playing a game. I multi task like you wouldnt believe.

then until you get some AC stay with a single OCed 460GTX. if you need more power then go to a 5850 or higher. you don't need that extra power so much here that its worth roasting yourself out
