I found someone wanting to trade / sell their EVGA GTX 480 card, I offered to trade my card (EVGA GTX 460 1gb EE version) + cash and they're wanting to trade it for my card + 100 for their 480.

Both of our cards are registered with our respective parties, other than that I don't really see a downside.

I was wanting to do a SLi configuration but since I don't have a SLi enabled mobo, I was thinking this might be the best bet without changing 3 pieces of my comp setup.

Just wanting to get a feeling for what you guys thought.

if you are not going to have a sig then please list all your current specs whenever asking for hardware advice.

It's definitely worth it for you. You're getting the better end of that deal and you won't have to worry about SLI.
460 is more suitable for 1680x1050, the 480 will help you max out 1080p.

gtx 480 @ 1080p is a waste. honestly how many games you can't play at max settings with your current setup?

Metro 2033 gets about 30fps at 1080 ... Whenever I do play games, I don't really enjoy lagging much.

Couldn't I just trade out trade a 480 for two 460's hm? Either way I think I'm getting a good deal for this. Though I know I'm not hemorrhaging for a new video card seeing as I just got one.

It is a good deal for you. There will always be people who say something is too much. LOL, until I got my triple screens, I was running 480 SLI for 1080p alone. Loved maxing out the settings and AA and still getting 60 FPS.
Now with 5900x1080p res, I can't max out the settings and AA on all games. But the extra screen real estate and visuals is amazing. I literally scan left to right while I'm running around the wastelands in Fallout 3, etc. Sweetness! :)

There are sevearl games that are quite demanding at 1080p especially if you mix in AA. Metro 2033 and Crysis are two and even Just Casue 2 can have pretty low dips from time to time.

gtx460+100 for gtx480 is good deal
however

i went gtx460 to gtx465@470 yesterday.
I increased 2000 points on my 3dmark vantage but noise/temp is unacceptable.
stock idle 50 load94
Took off cover and attaced 80mm
now iide 40 load 67

i know its not same card but gtx480 is hotter and louder

Yeah. Basically, I bought a Gainward GTX460 GLH that cost me 250 euros. For 300 euros I could have gotten a GTX470 plus the free Mafia II game. But it would simply be too hot, loud and power hungry for me:p

I have read about gtx470,480 being hot but didnt know it was going to be this hot.
anyway I'm happy with performance and fan mod(too hate cant do fan mod in sli)

I may have to have you help me with that fan mod, Dorky ;)

What I've done on my old 8800 GTS 512 (it ran as hot as the 480) I put a single fan pointing upwards toward it with a little divider inbetween to ensure there was always colder air blowing directly on the heatsink, though i would much rather actually attach a fan to the card.
